As of late, I seem to be having trouble winning a won game. I don't know why, was wandering if there is any technique in doing so?

Here is a game, 15 minutes with no additional time, trying to get myself ready for a tournmaent with this time limit, as I always have time trouble

I was white

1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Nf3 Bb4 5. Bg5 O-O 6. e3
h6 7. Bh4 c5 8. a3 Bxc3+ 9. bxc3 b6 10. Ne5 Nbd7 11. Bd3 g5 12. Bg3 Nxe5 13.
Bxe5 Ne4 14. Qh5 f6 15. Qg6+ Kh8 16. Qxh6+ Kg8 17. Qg6+ Kh8 18. h4 g4 19. Bxe4
dxe4 20. Qxe4 Ba6 21. Bg3 Bxc4 22. Qxg4 Qd5 23. e4 Qd7 24. Qh5+ Kg7 25. e5 cxd4
26. exf6+ Kxf6 27. Be5+ Ke7 28. Bxd4 Rf5 29. Qh7+ Rf7 30. Qe4 Bd5 31. Qg4 Raf8
32. O-O Qc8 33. Qg5+ Kd7 34. f3 Rg8 35. Qh5 Qf8 36. Rad1 Rxf3 37. Rxf3 Bxf3 38.
Bg7+ Bxd1 39. Qxd1+ Qd6 40. Qxd6+ Kxd6

As you can see, I had a great game and blew it, time did become a factor in the last couple of moves though.

So any tips? :D

Looks like you were doing fine until you missed 36...Rxf3. Maybe 38.Bc5+ was a better try, with the point being that 38...Bxd1 39.Qxd1+ Qd6 is now not possible. You could have avoided all that stuff by stepping off the g-file and breaking the pin of the g2 pawn, maybe 36.Kh2

I wouldn't beat yourself up over it too much, it was a very sharp position in a rapid game. Maybe study up on some more tactics.

Thanks Boris. I am currently playing through CT-Art, which I think has helped me already.

Also I missed 39. Qb5+!. When Fritz showed me that, I thought "Dam!"

I haven't looked at your game in detail but my impression is that you tried to attack your opponent with lots of checks when there was no real chance of actually mating him or winning a decisive material advantage. A decisive attack needs preparation so that you have several pieces working together to execute it. CT Art is great for tactical finishes but not so useful for the preparation stage.

1. d4 d5 2. c4 e6 3. Nc3 Nf6 4. Nf3 [play 4.Bg5; the game move allows Black an easier game in many lines] 4... Bb4 5. Bg5 O-O 6. e3
h6 7. Bh4 c5 8. a3 Bxc3+ 9. bxc3 b6 10. Ne5 Nbd7 11. Bd3 g5 [what on earth is he thinking making such weaknesses in front of his K?] 12. Bg3 Nxe5 13.
Bxe5 Ne4 14. Qh5 f6 [this is just suicide, allowing the Q to bore in] 15. Qg6+ Kh8 16. Qxh6+ Kg8 17. Qg6+ Kh8 18. h4 g4 19. Bxe4 [maybe a quiet move like 19. Bf4, threatening f3, or 19. Qh5+ picking up the Pg4 with check] 19...
dxe4 20. Qxe4 [again, 20. Qh5+; 21. Qxg4+ and only then 22. Qxe4; saves tempi over the game line; also the B could retreat to f4 then be ready to join in the attack on h6 in some lines, and White could also play Rh3-g3 if Black's K hasn't tried to crawl under the central Ps] 20... Ba6 21. Bg3 Bxc4 22. Qxg4 Qd5 23. e4 Qd7 24. Qh5+ Kg7 25. e5 cxd4 26. exf6+ Kxf6 27. Be5+ Ke7 28. Bxd4 Rf5 29. Qh7+ Rf7 30. Qe4 Bd5 31. Qg4 Raf8
32. O-O Qc8 33. Qg5+ Kd7 34. f3 Rg8 35. Qh5 Qf8 36. Rad1 Rxf3 37. Rxf3 Bxf3 38.
Bg7+ Bxd1 [38... Kc8 gives good drawing chances; the same answer to 38. Bc5+] 39. Qxd1+ [39. Qb5+ Zwischenzug wins] 39... Qd6 40. Qxd6+ Kxd6

Thanks for the Annotations Jono. I think I should have played Qh5+, grabbing the g-pawn with check, instead of the way I did it.
