Me and a couple of recent ex-juniors from Victoria have been involved with organizing a free poker tournament, which you can view at http://freepokerrealprizes.com. It costs $0 to enter and there is $500 in prizemoney - no catches. We've not advertised it much, but have instead tried to focus on finding people who have never played poker seriously before but might have talent for it. So we've been pitching the event at university engineering and computer science students, mathematicians, etc.

It's well known that chessplayers have a pretty huge edge at poker (for example, see http://www.chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=5208), so I'd like to extend an invitation to you guys here. It won't cost you a cent, and it's a great opportunity to get some practice and maybe win some cash.

Only players > 18 years old are allowed.

Just dropping back in to say that Mr Kerry Stead came out with the first prize in our inaugural US $500 poker event! You can read about his success at our website http://freepokerrealprizes.com. He won the US $200 first prize, which is pretty decent for an hour or so's work, especially since our tournament had a $0 entry fee.

We are running another free poker tournament this Sunday 8:00pm Eastern Australian Time, which admittedly has a lower prizefund. Nonetheless, we are keen to invite more chessplayers to participate. We reckon they have a definite edge over everyone.

So, if any of you chesschatters have thought about taking up poker but haven't wanted to cough up any $$$, here's another chance to get some tournament practice risk-free! We plan on running these free poker tournaments at 8:00pm every Sunday for the foreseeable future. Everyone 18 years of age or over is welcome to play. If you have facebook please also check out the facebook group http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=72864040041.

It seems to me Kaitlin just to be a normal recruitment excercise by the pokersite. They just pay $1 per entrant to get people interested. They'll make a killing if a few players stay and play raked games.

I haven't signed up yet.. and probably won't. Kerry would be the man to talk to about this.

Methinks Cameron is correct on this one. Its a way to get players to a site, with the money given away being recouped later in cash game rake & tournament entry fees.
The tournaments are played on LuckyAcePoker, which is a skin of 888 or Pacific Poker (Warnie's site). The site is decent, though the opposition is pretty poor in terms of quality.
