It has been confirmed that the 6th Dato' Arthur Tan Malaysian Open will be held in Kuala Lumpur from 21 - 28 Aug, followed by the Merdeka Team event from 29 - 31 Aug. Round 1 on 22 Aug. All conditions remain the same as 2008 except for the Prize Fund, which might see a reduction to US $18,000.

The event is definitely on. The Malaysian Chess Federation is not involved in the Commonwealth event.

More information shortly.

Best wishes

At last we have details of the 2009 Malaysian Open in Kuala Lumpur - see attachment.

Please confirm your entries (and FIDE ratings) to me as soon as possible.

IM Stephen Solomon has advised me that he is unable to travel to KL due to the demands of his new job. Therefore, his Myer Tan prize will be distributed as travel subsidies to any other Australians who play.

I understand that three kiwis have already made travel arrangements; namely, Paul Spiller, Helen Milligan and Hilton Bennett.

Best wishes

I'm thinking about going to this tournament... does anybody want to share a room? Also, you guys might like to know that Air Asia has a $260 round-trip fare right now from Melbourne to KL.
