To be fair, both Kosteniuk and T Kosintseva are pretty talented players e.g. the former beat Ian Rogers last year in Wijk aan Zee.

Perhaps it is a bit like the situation in tennis with Sharapova. Outstanding performance at Wimbledon on the court, but all the headlines were about her appearance at the post tournament ball.

Yes, this has been said frequently.

It is unfortunate but inevitable that Sharapova and others like her (not Kournikova) make the headlines not for their ability.
