2. What is the time limit?
3. Am I good enough to beat you?

I don't see the win. Black keeps the rook on the a file, if the white king goes to b6, Rb1+ and back to the a file, if it goes to d6 or d5, Ra5. If white tries to swap off rooks by playing re8-re7+, black doesn't take right away on a7 but gives check first. Then white can swap the a pawn for the e pawn, but I'm not convinced that will win.

I think 44. Re1 wins comfortably due to the unsaveable h pawn.

No, he can just go and take my e pawn. Kd5, Ra5+ Ke6 Kh7 Re8 Ra6+ Kxe5 Rxa7 Kf6 +- unfortunately my king is in a horrible position.
I could have played on for 10 moves, but I respect the fact Boris would probably find that relatively easily with so much time.

Yes, Kf6 is zugzwang because the square g7 is taken from the Black king. White can also triangulate ke6-f5-f6 if necessary. The rook must leave the 5th rank, and it's simple from there.

Yes, with so many Ps on the K-side, White would always be able to inch his K towards the e-pawn while Black's K was stuck on g7/h7. White wasn't kind enough to allow his e-pawn to be captured, since R2P v R is a draw with Ra8 Pa7 with the enemy R behind, and a g or h P.

White's opening seemed very unpretentious, but with seemingly simple moves, White's time advantage became decisive, a bit like Capablanca's games.

Yes, Kf6 is zugzwang because the square g7 is taken from the Black king.So white can get the e pawn for free (as opposed to swap for the a-pawn as above), which does win easily.

Not sure where the decisive mistake was from Black. I wasn't sure how I was going to break the position down if the Black king stayed on f5. Black seems to be able to temporise with the rook along the a-file, if the White king moves to h3 the rook keeps an eye on the h2-pawn and white has no way to lose a move. Maybe there is a way to break it down, I didn't spend long enough to find one figuring I would cross that bridge if it came to it.

White can always lose a move with a7 if he has not already played it. If the BR is on a2 and white has played a7 then Black needs to go to a4 to guard the h-pawn while losing the move he is required to lose, but then white has f4! interfering with the rook's protection of h4. If then Ke4, after exchanging on f5 and taking the h-pawn white wins with the two rook's pawns since the king cannot leave the e-file safely fast enough.

There is a wonderful variation if Black tries to avoid all this with a pawn move 39...e4: 40.fxe4 Kxe4 41.a7 Ra2+ 42.Kh3 Kf3 which must look drawn but it isn't - 43.e4!! is just about zugzwang (43...Kf4 44.e5! while ...Ke3 gives white's king a clear run to f5).

So I think it is lost for black even with the king on f5 and was lost for black for a few moves before that too but I am also not sure where the decisive error in the endgame (if it wasn't lost all along) was.

Nice win and I see why Jono made his Capa comment. Black had the key option 13...Bxd4 instead of 13...Bxd5?! which gave you all those nice tempo moves; looks like the ending that liquidates into is OK for black but it does require a fair amount of care.

Yeah, saw this variation, that's why I didn't play it.
Computer says +.3 for white before I swapped all those pawns, basically thinks it's drawn, which I think it is.
But with only e and h pawns, it's giving +4.

I thought it was interesting to analyze the rook endgame with extra a-pawn for white and 4 pawns against 4, which I knew was drawish, but not to what extent.

My analysis basically ended up concluding that black is lost after 32...h5?? after which black has no satisfactory defense as far as i can tell. Quite an interesting result since nobody questioned the move in the analysis, except perhaps JM indirectly saying he swapped too many pawns. The problem with h5 is not only that it weakens the h-pawn itself, but also the f5-square, so both Kf5-e6 becomes a threat as well as Kh4xh5. My conclusion was that 32...g5! probably holds a draw, but the defense is far from easy, perhaps best illustrated by this position

R7/P3pk2/5p2/5P2/4P1K1/r7/8/8 w - - 0 1

White to move and win. With 1.e5! fxe5 2.f6! black is certainly in an impossible situation because of the old trick 2...exf6 3.Rh8 Rxa7 4.Rh7+ etc.
If 1...Kg7 2.e6! white will eventually get his king in to play Kxe7 with an easy win. That is really the kind of tricks black must avoid. If it were black to move in the same position, it is an easy draw after 1...Kg7! and white has no tricks for instance 2.Kf4 Kh7! 3.e5 Ra4+ 4.Ke3 fxe5 5.Kd3 e4+ 6.Ke3 Kg7 7.Kf4 Kh7! and white will get nowhere.

8/4pk1p/R4pp1/8/P5P1/r3P3/5PKP/8 b - - 0 32
After 32...g5! from the game position if white later (after Kg3) plays h4, black can exchange it safely, while after white f4 black should probably just leave it be and continue with Kf7-e6-f7. Instead if black were to stay passive with Ke6-f7-e6 withouth playing g5 white can bring the pawn up on a7, then all pawns on e4,f4,g4,h4 and then play g5 which already threatens to win with gxf6 and Rh8, so black must choose. If f5 then exf5,gxf5 h5, h6 and Rh8 gives white too strong pawns on the g- and h-file, while fxg5 hxg5 allows white the plan f4-f5 threat f6 and black must choose between Kg7 which will allow the white king to penetrate to e7, or stay with Kf7 and allow the threat f6. But when black leaves his own pawn on g5, he should be Okay I think. Also white catching the h-pawn with Rh8,Rxa7,Rxh7 is never really dangerous in these types of position, at least not if there is no white h5 or h6 pawn (hence h2-h4 should be answered by gxh4!).

R7/P7/5p2/4pk2/r6p/4PP1K/7P/8 w - - 0 1

White can always lose a move with a7 if he has not already played it. If the BR is on a2 and white has played a7 then Black needs to go to a4 to guard the h-pawn while losing the move he is required to lose, but then white has f4! interfering with the rook's protection of h4. If then Ke4, after exchanging on f5 and taking the h-pawn white wins with the two rook's pawns since the king cannot leave the e-file safely fast enough.

I agree with this, although I saw a small practical chance for black in 1.f4!,e4 2.Kxh4,Ra2 3.h3?? Ra3! and certainly it is white that is in a terrible zugzwang with 2 extra pawns, both Kg3 and Kh5 is answered by Rxe3(+) so only chance to play for a win seems to be 4.Rb8 Rxa7 5.Rb5+ Ke6! (I think 5...Kg6? 6.f5+ Kh6 7.Kg4 loses because of the passive position of the black king) 6.f5+ Kd6 7.Kg4 Rg7+! 8.Kf4 Rh7 and I can't find a win for white. But this is all illusions. After 3.Kg3! Ra3 4.Kf2! Ra2+ 5.Ke1! the h-pawn will decide the game easily.

So I think it is lost for black even with the king on f5 and was lost for black for a few moves before that too but I am also not sure where the decisive error in the endgame (if it wasn't lost all along) was.

I agree with this actually going all the way back to 32...h5??
