News has appeared that IM Bob Wade has died from pneumonia at the age of 87. There is an obituary on the Chess Base News page at
http://chessbase.com/newsdetail.asp?newsid=5043

One is also foreshadowed on TWIC.

A sad loss for the world of chess with particular resonance for our New Zealand colleagues even though Bob Wade had been living in the UK for many years.

I just read in Chessbase that Bob Wade(87) died this morning.

That is very sad. I met the elderly Wade at the last Queenstown International and he was a lovely man. I have read and dipped into a number of his books. He wrote many. A favorite of mine is a little book (1974/ 1984) called The Batsford Book of Chess. He also did a huge amount of work on many books that appeared under the authorship of others. Not to mention long-time editor of the British Chess Magazine, Chief National Coach for England, and "one of the world's most experienced chess teachers" (Ray Keene in the foreword to op cit).

He was a very strong player and even more importantly - a distinguished person.

R G Wade, OBE, IM, would be the strongest ever chessplayer born in my home city of Dunedin. RIP. Peter Parr has a brief (and personal) obituary in his SMH column today. Click here to read this and hundreds of other chess columns in the SMH.
News (http://www.chessdiscountsales.com/news/newsindex.htm) Today's column should be there soon.

I believe he was 87, not 89
