Preoder the Linux Evo Smart Console, Toss the 360/PS3/Wii (http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2008/10/preoder_the_linux_evo_smart_console_toss_the_360ps 3wii-2.html)

More than one major software developer has argued on behalf of a one console future, a way that they could make games for a single system and maybe even circumvent royalty rates paid to Sony or Nintendo to take part on their platforms. Well here it is, whiners. Go ahead and make games to your heart's content. The Evo Smart Console is essentially a Linux based PC loaded with an AMD 64x2 processor, ATI Radeon 3200 graphics and 2GB of RAM, but it hopes to offer cloud storage and social networking through its included Evo Network.

Priced at $US600, the Linux Evo Smart Console can be yours for $US250 if you're willing to sign up for some subscriptions. And if you put down some money now, one of these beauts can be yours on November 20th when it's released. As for all the awesome games...uhh...they're on the way. Really. (OK, to be fair, they've got Hexen II Hammer of Thyrion teased on their homepage.)

PS3 has an RRP of $999.95. Also, as the article says, if game developers do not have to pay royalties to the platform owner, games would probably be cheaper.

What if you could play your Wii games on the Evo, and also PS3 and other platforms too? Wouldn't that be a good thing?

Yeah, I guess that'd be pretty cool...
but there are other reasons why I have a Wii
eg. the controller, the trasnportability [is that a word?] , the way it's so convenient...

We could organise a Wii MaroKart challenge for ChessChatters if there is enough interest.

If you have a wii and a wireless network it is pretty easy to set up. Get online and racing in the WFC.

I'm also concerned about how much downloading is done while playing the game, though i have plenty of GB plan, its not unlimited.

I have a 12Gb/month plan and I haven't noticed the Wii adding significantly to the total. I also use the wii on occasions to do other stuff like weather forecast/news feeds and even looking at video on youtube. (Sometime I even read chesschat :) )

Well, i'm not obsessed with CC as much, but with ICC... I did an all-nighter on ICC once, and since the WCC's been on, i've stayed up till 3:30am each night to watch it! :X

More than half were stolen 2 years ago but i got them back through insurance and most of my games were bought by me over the last two years by saving my measly $5 pocket money per week. I am 13 but my family isn't rich so it is reasonable

Miranda

lol...

But if games are $50, and you have 50 of them, that's $2500 games. And if you get $5 a week, that's about $250 a year.... 10 years worth of PS2 games?!

Anywho, my wii is actually my older sister's, but she never plays it! :) So we have Wario Ware, Sims 2 Castaway and Wii fit... which are pretty fun. I've finished Sims and Wario, though, but they have replay value...

I would like to put in a good word for Tony.k because I am teaching him lots of things about games and he is learning extremely fast. I think he might actually be better than me at killzone, creeeeeeeeeeeeeeepy.

in post #19 i forgot to add that for the two years i received $120 extra from birthday and christmas money plus i have 52 games and i bought 29 and had the other 23 bought for me. The games that i bought were mostly in deals of 2 for $40, 2 for $30 3 for 40 and so on. I rarely buy an expensive game and don't buy many games in single deals.

Erm, it did at launch, but not any more (and not for some time): $699.95

Erm, it did at launch, but not any more (and not for some time): $699.95The point was that $US600 (at launch) was not steep for a console.

Lol, most of the games cost more than $50.. they are $79-$99 without discount. 50 games would cost a LOT!
I have WarioWare, Zelda:TP, Wii Sports, SMG, Excite Truck, Wii Play.
I've finished Zelda:TP - took me a whole 62 hrs, and WarioWare doesn't take very long to finish.. also almost finished Excite Truck (except mirror mode) lol

"Yet the current generation of videogame console has been dominated not by Sony or Microsoft but by the Wii, Nintendo's modest machine that relies on an older, cheaper and less powerful chip. With an input device that allows players physically to interact with games, the Wii has been yet another runaway success, selling almost as many consoles as the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 combined."

N64 Mario Golf has finally come out on the classic console and is downloadable for the Wii for 1,000 Wii Points. (AU$15). IMHO well worth the investment.

I'm still waiting for the Wii Mario Golf offering. So far I've had to make do with GCN Mario Golf - Toadstool Tour and (now) N64 Mario Golf.

I reckon the best games on virtual console wii are:
N64: Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of time
and Mario Kart 64
Pretty cheap actually.
wish i had a wireless internet connection

yeahh mario kart 64's awesome
just got mario kart wii yesterday, will probably start getting virtual console games eventually, when i purchase a classic controller, wii points card and switch the internet to wireless... then I'll probably get Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Zelda: Majora's Mask and Mario 64. don't know about mario kart 64 though, is it worth getting if I already have mario kart wii? they seem rather similar...

Definitely, but they're getting cheaper now...
I get most of mine at $50-70 with the exception of GH: World Tour & Wii Fit, which are more expensive due to additional equipment.
Now I've got:
- Wii Sports
- Wii Play
- Zelda: Twilight Princess :)
- Warioware
- Excite Truck
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Super Smash Bros. Brawl
- Guitar Hero: World Tour
- Wii Fit
- Mario Kart Wii
now waiting for my birthday for some virtual console and maybe one or two more..

Wow, it's possible to finish Sims? I thought it was endless (though I've never actually tried one before). Yeah same, finished Warioware in 2 hrs but it's fun to go back to it every now and then. Good use of the wii remote :)

I bought about 25 disks in Beijing for about $70.
Yeah... but if they're wii discs they're probably not compatible with the Aus/NZ console, cos they'll probably be Chinese/Japanese version whilst we need a PAL version disc. I just get them from local electronics stores like EB Games, JB-Hi Fi or anything that has a sale on, though it's much more expensive, I don't want to stuff up my console... :hmm:
