Hey girl and fellas...did you know that they have TV coverage of poker on SBS? It's Late night poker or something rather. Gripping stuff lemme tell youse. Now if they can have poker on TV, then surely they can have chess like rapid - at least.

i've seen one stat that says 50 million people in the US play poker recreationally
i don't know if that is exaggerated but it does seem very popular in the US!
i guess similary in UK as well, hence the channel 4 program.

the nearest thing in chess i've seen would have been the PCA chess videos back
in the days when Intel were sponsoring chess.
they were very exciting videos of the rapid play circuit in paris, moscow, etc.

I figure he chose the user name "quanta" because he wanted to be discrete. :lol: (physics joke)

quanta is a taiwan company (http://www.quanta.com.tw/e_default.htm) who make computer bits and pieces. completely nothing to do with bridge or chess though!!

Quanta is also the plural of quantum as in quantum mechanics and the word quantum was chosen because at the sub-atomic level everything seems to happen in discrete amounts, not on a continuum. The concept of a continuum at the macro level seems to be a function of the statistical behavior of quanta at the sub atomic level.

So I was making a rather poor pun on the word "discrete". ;)

I hate that opening... then again, I hate 1. d4, boredom city :confused:

"They" is not a preposition.

Quite right. I believe the term is a pronoun.

Current score is
Amiel = 1490
ggray = 1518

And the best way to catch him is to play 'grammar police', eh?

:eek: :eek: :eek:
It is all relative of course.

But the difference with gg'' is that he is a filter-free poster. You will not catch him now Amiel.

Apparently filter-free poster was obtuse.

I meant filter-free in the sense that the poster does not apply any criteria to the urge to respond.
