Hi,

Interesting , especially the knight taking the d pawn. I think i will take it to some coaching i am doing today and let the top juniors sort it out.

kindest regards

hi all,

I took the Nx d3 through to the top juniors and they analysed and said they would love to be white. At the Chess Centre last night I checked with Aaron and he basically said the same , so although Nxd3 looks impressive it shouldnt work. But im going to keep analysing because I have had similar positions not identical but similar but never been game to play Nxd3.

I think in blitz if as black you are prepared it could have GREAT value.

Kindest regards

hi george,
my opinion is that nxd3 is unsound, the clump of threatening looking central pawns may look like some sort of compensation but they are easily accounted for.
what did your students think of the possum ?

yes , thank you zwish ,
the possum seemed to suffocate black quite early in that game .
was surprised by nxd3 , i had not considered it , although somewhat understandable given the restraining black was suffering.
but it does not provide adequate compensation IMO.

Hi Ax,

My students thought the possum should again be sent to New Zealand to infect that country:). Pawn chains - see Capablanca vs K.Treybal the tenth round of Carlsbad 1929 - the most definitive reply in my opinion to Queens Gambit declined Stonewall Defence. If you are into simplicity of solution but with much beauty the above game is a defining moment. You may well know the above game AX but if you dont its my way of saying thx for the dubious but interesting Nxd3.

Kindest Regards
