Hi Everyone, its that time of year again :) The 2007 George Trundle NZ Masters Tournament starts today....

There is a pretty good field lined up this year, with GMs Stuart Conquest and Darryl Johansen as the favourites. Other players include Stephen Solomon, Tim O'Reilly, Bob Smith, Mik Steadman, and Nic Croad - I will post the full player list shortly.

As usual it will be a 10 player round robin, and the top 3 boards will be broadcast live on our website at: www.aucklandchesscentre.co.nz/webcontent/im-norm-tournament.aspx

The first round starts today at 1pm NZST which is 11am Sydney time.

On the live boards today we have:

Lukey - Johansen
Solomon - Reilly
Bennett - Conquest

Hilton Bennett, the lowest rated entrant, who won entry to this tourney by winning last years qualifier has to face a GM who was upset yesterday ...

Edit .. almost forgot to mention: todays round starts 1 hour earlier (all other rounds will be at the normal time)

Hi Oscar, thanks for the live coverage - it's greatly appreciated (although we may not say it all the time). Any chance of an update of all the results after the first three rounds?

No problem, here you go .... PGN and crosstable are now available at:

http://www.aucklandchesscentre.co.nz/webcontent/im-norm-tournament.aspx

The PGN is not quite complete, still missing a few games from the last round or two - we should be catching up on these soon.

Sorry Gringo, I should have stopped trying to fix our technical problems earlier and done the crosstables. My fault. :p :)

Smith threw away the win against Croad by the faulty exchange 43... NxBf6. This N was excellently placed, confining White's K and shielding his own. Smith could have spared us the last 20 moves or so.

Thanks for all the updates, Oscar.

(Please try to ignore the anonymous Gringo - nobody likes him and it's a mystery why he's even here.)

I clicked on the links for the cross table and the pgns but got the dreaded "page not found" response (using Firefox/Mac). Has anyone else suffered the same fate?

Edit: I take that back. I went back to the same page, still open, and now it's OK so that's computer personality for you

Some neat tactics by Reilly against the current leader Watson.

Updated Crosstable is available now, PGN will follow soon.

Two big games today:

The GMs face off with Johansen - Conquest on board 3
2 norm chasers face off with Reilly - Smith on board 2. Reilly needs 1.5/2 for a norm and Smith needs 2/2 for a norm - so one of them will lose their norm chance today.

Reilly lost to Conquest, unfortunately. And IIRC Solo beat Watson.
