David Smerdon scored a pretty solid 7/11 in the Finet Chess960 Open at Mainz. I presume he will also play in the Ordix Open (rapid).

What an impressive list of GM's. What will the effect of this tournament be on the Smurf's rating.

Seems like he performed according to rating bouncing backwards and forwards for the first eight rounds, lost to one lower rated player in round nine then beat two more, so my guess is: not much either way. I haven't checked the ratings of his opponents though, I was just going on their seedings.

I don't think the question of rating arises as Chess960 is Fischer Random.

Looks that way. Notice there is an entrant "spielfrei" with a score of +0=0-8 which I assume is a computer entry that was withdrawn.

And in any case, both events are rapid - the second, played today and tomorrow is 'normal' rapid chess.

"spielfrei" is german for "bye"

A fine performance from Smerdon at the Ordix Open (rapid):

He finished in equal 13th position on 8.5/11, level with Ivanchuk, Karjakin, Bareev, Kamsky, and ahead of Shirov, Akopian, Grischuk and Naiditsch. He won his last four games, including wins over GMs Takirov and Jenni.
