Ha! That got your attention.

Does anyone else get frustrated by ridiculous Internet usage policies at work? I mean, I could understand if I wasn't allowed to browse chesschat because it was a waste of bandwidth ... but pornography? sheesh.

At last. A proxy filter with good taste built in.

For personal accountability, I use a program called "Covenant Eyes". It doesn't act as a filter or a proxy, so it doesn't stop you going to any sites that you want to go to. In my work, I sometimes have to visit sites with fairly unsavoury content, and a filter would be a major annoyance.

What Covenant Eyes does is let me nominate a few people to whom I am accountable for my Internet usage. I've nominated my wife for starters, and am also considering adding my boss at work. Once a week or so, they get a summary report of my Internet access ... rated as "high risk", "medium risk" and "low risk".

Merely reading this thread will probably generate at least a medium risk tag, because of "Pornography" in the thread title! :)

Anyway, I have found personally that not only does it make me far less likely to waste time following lurid links on the Internet, the level of trust between myself and my wife as improved noticeably. Volunteering to "be watched and reported on" by a piece of software isn't for everyone, but it effectively and unobtrusively works for me.

Ocassionally, pornographic images will crop up here (mainly posted by spammers), they are swiftly deleted by the mod team (thank goodness!), however, for a programmer to get a software program to tell the difference is drawing rather a long bow.

Use a proxy at work using portable firefox.

Everyone uses it at school to get free internet, so they dont have to pay.

The work cant see anything.

I am not sure what the big deal is concerning pornography. Anything can be abused. I use pornography to practice not judging women by the clothes they don't wear.
