Somebody asked me to post this game in a thread.

[Event "Triple Treat U1600"]
[Site "Greenbank RSL, Brisbane"]
[Date "2007.05.20"]
[Round "7"]
[White "Alex *******"]
[Black "Howard Duggan"]
[Result "1-0"]
[Opening "Scandinavian defense"]
[ECO "B01"]
[NIC "SD.03"]

Qxc6 Qd8 40. Ra8 {White wins} 1-0

:owned: Personally I would have played f4 instead of Ra1 on move 36, but Alex's space siezure and dark squared positional mastery must have really made Oward squirm. Gotta love seeing your passive opponents inactive Queen on f8 defending the weak h6 pawn.

cheers Fg7

White's positional play in this game is indeed very impressive (particularly given his rating). Black has virtually equlised out of the opening but it was probably wrong to leave the queen on a6 out of play.

The game is quite instructive...However, the Headline (Howard loses in chess) is a bit provocative. May be it can be changed to "Positional mastery" etc. I would be greatly entertained if people would publish my losses..just because i am was on the losing end of them.

Isn't this thread in the wrong forum?

[Yes it was and I have moved it - mod]

Yes. Totally unecessary, where 34...Kh7 would have sufficed. An error in time trouble. Kh7 dawned on my little brain a couple of moves later.

Finally, the nebulus 37...Qe8, deeper in time trouble, where I had momentarily lost sight of the weak c6 pawn proved the decisive point in a game that had already slipped. Deservedly lost.

Not a particularly active game from black. Would have preferred 12...Qa5 leaving white with only a small plus which would be quite normal and acceptable in this position.

34...Kh7 would make the game longer, but would not save it really...white got too much space advantage, protected pass pawn, plus f4 is coming.

Yes, the game was gone by then. Thanks for taking an interest. It is appreciated.

However, the Headline (Howard loses in chess) is a bit provocative.

Agreed and thread retitled; thread-starter is also free to suggest any other non-trolling alternative.

Of course anyone who beats me is completely entitled to post their game as "BONHAM PLAYS LIKE A RETARDED WOMBAT" or "MY THREE YEAR OLD REFUTES ANOTHER GUTLESS BONHAM SWINDLE" or whatever. You won't be telling me anything I don't already know.

What a shame. I liked the old title!

Restored it as best I could remember. Let me know if it was actually slightly different.

Perfect! But thanks to you and Mike all the same.
