The $40,000 Philippine International Open and Philippine International Challenge are scheduled 10-20 April 2007 in Subic, Olongapo City, National Chess Federation of the Philippines (NCFP) president Prospero Pichay (photo) announced. The resort venue gives participants the chance to combine a chess and beach holiday. Download regulations for the International Open and for the Challenge event.

The event is part of the string of international events organized by the NCFP President, following the successful $26,000 GMA Cup last November in Manila.

PARTICIPATION:
Participation in the Philippine International Open Chess Championship is open to all.

REGISTRATION FEE:
Registration is free for players FIDE rated 2500 and above. Other players with January 2007 FIDE Ratings of:
2400 to 2499 US$50 or P 2,500
2300 to 2399 US$75 or P 3,750
2200 to 2299 US$100 or P 5,000
2000 to 2199 US$125 or P 6,250
1400 to 1999 US$150 or P 7,500
Unrated (FIDE): US$200 or P 10,000

Deadline for Registration is March 31, 2007. Entries after the deadline shall pay double the registration fee. Registration fee of foreign players may be sent by bank transfer to National Chess Federation of the Philippines.

TOURNAMENT VENUE:
Games will be played in Subic, Olongapo City, Philippines.

TOURNAMENT SYSTEM
1. The Philippine International Open Chess Championship will be played in 9 rounds using the Swiss System.
2. The time control shall be 90 minutes for the whole game with an increment of 30 seconds per move starting from move 1.
3. The FIDE Laws of Chess shall apply. All mobile phones should be closed. The tournament will be FIDE rated.
4. The Swiss Manager program shall be used for pairings.

ARBITRATION

1. Chief Arbiter is IA Casto Abundo.

2. Protests against decisions of the Chief Arbiter should be submitted in writing within a half hour after the round with a deposit fee of US$100 or P5,000 which shall be refunded if the protest is upheld.

Top 3 Filipinos US$ 500 (250,150,100)

Cash prizes shall be shared equally among tied players. Ties for Cups and trophies shall be broken by average rating of the 8 strongest opponents, then if still tied, 7 strongest, etc. Players who win two prizes shall receive only the larger one.

HOTEL ACCOMMODATION:

1. Participants will be informed of their official hotel. The first 20 GMs to register shall be provided accommodation on a twin sharing basis, one day prior to the opening and one day after the closing ceremony of the tournament.


INVITATIONS FOR VISAS:

For those who need visas, the Organizing shall issue invitations for them to apply at the Philippine consulate in their countries.

REGISTRATION FORM:

An unfortunate clash with the Sydney International Open. It's a shame that they couldn't have started it a week later - that would have been a great opportunity for the European GMs to make a combined trip. Lets just hope all those GMs have booked their tickets already!

All the information seems to be very similar to the SIO, coincidence :hmm:

Odd, that. But if they knew about the SIO I would be very surprised if they would deliberately clash with it, especially when the SIO apparently has a big head start on entries.
