Stephen and I are playing a correspondence game (his moves often to be sent by e-mail due to the paucity of his logging on here) which we have both agreed will be posted here in keeping with the theme of 'The Tromp Trilogy' which is now considerably more than a trilogy!

like your new sig ... but the punishment seems too severe (as i think there's a lot of play left in this game, even from a rook down). my pieces are poorly coordinated and my pawns are scattered like a sheep without a shepherd!

:hmm: I think perhaps the variation of 17.Qh5 immediately might have been better, leaving your king in the middle (and attackable) with an h pawn henry rush might have been better. I only mention it now because none of that is possible.

Either way, I'm sure I deserve my eternity of readings - but I'll do my best!

I'm sorry Stephen. I should have put up a better fight. I hope you don't feel your time has been wasted. Congrats on whopping The Tromp! Care to go again? Tromp or colours reversed is fine by me.

For those watching in black and white I feel compelled to say that on my work comp (I switch), I still had the king on h8 in a sub variation. What is VERY clear is that white was lost anyway!

howard, i feel bad about that ... would you like to take a few steps back and continue from my Kg7 move? i have put in a lot of analysis time (i am on holidays at the beach with little else to do) and am confident that my king position can hold, leaving me a piece up, but if you'd like to play on minus the position setup error, i don't mind at all.

i think i will pass on the return game, as it is really awkward and time consuming to post from my pda.

Hi Stephen

Thanks, but no. Best to put me out of misery quickly! As I say the game was lost anyway and you are a deserved winner. That I made a foolish error had absolutely no bearing on the outcome one scrap.

I have written elsewhere about correspondence (hopefully) improving (my) OTB play - I hope this is a case in point. My gut feeling at the time was to play Qa5 straight away which would have led to a position not dissimilar to the one below. My h pawns would have had some threats, perhaps with sufficient force for the piece to be returned - I don't know (am going to plug the position into a machine now).

I have learned something from this game - and for that I am grateful. Would love to do it again when you have more time.

Happy holidays!
Howard

Howard, I thought you sacked the night that you would eventually go down, there was no quick win to justify the sac.

Oppositon rooks on H file seem to be your weakness?
