Do any of you play in the Australian Poker League?
I'd played a few times before, but decided to have a real go at qualifying for the State Championship in the last fortnight, and it looks like I might have qualified (you have to be in the top 10 points scorers for the state for a week). Anyone else play, or qualified for this event in their state?

Hello Kerry

I have started playing in the last 2 weeks...

I think I will give it a shot in January... so far I have experimented at different venues/styles etc...

I am more in it for the fun aspect than going for any real prizes/State Champs etc...

Good luck!

Wise

Hi Kerry,

There's also the NPL which also run tournaments in Australia.

The Triple Ace bar opposite CDS now has a poker tournament every Thursday evening.

Pat Halpin won last week's event!

Managed to finish about 80th in the Vic State Champs - from a field of around 360. Started with 45 tables of 8 & I was eliminated when there were 10 tables left.
Was generally well run, though the 'relaxed blind structure' was only slightly different to the usual APL 'turbo-table' style - the only advantage being the larger starting bank.
Picked up a deck of cards & a T-Shirt for my troubles too.

What do you mean by turbo table style?

When the blinds go up roughly each round of the table. At 15 minutes with people dealing themselves, that's roughly what you get.
