If you seek an in depth discussion about a particular line however, perhaps a new thread would serve the purpose better. :)

Thanks for the game, Zwischenzug. I quite enjoyed it. It was a fun tactical encounter that required a fair bit of my time and energy. :)

The 12.Qf3 variation mentioned in passing can be quite hairy for both sides, one continuation being 12... Nd4 13.Nc7+ Qxc7 14.Qxa8+ Ke7 where White wins the exchange but Black gets compensation through nice play for his pieces and a strong attack, (eg 15.c3 b4 16.cxb4 Qb6, when the follow up of Qb4+ will harrass White's king).

The line you chose (12.Bd3) is of course equally valid. As far as I could find determine, we entered new theory after 14.Be4, which seems to be a good move.

I felt that your decision to castle on the Queenside only served to help Black's counterplay by providing the King as a target to Black's pieces. Maybe 15.c3 (blocking the semi open c-file and stopping Black's knight coming into e4) with the idea of castling Kingside, and regrouping the knight on a3 via c2-e3 may have offered better chances.

I was initially going to play 17... Qa5?? hoping for 18.Nd3 Qxa3 19.bxa3 Rxc2+ 20.Kb1 Bxa2+ 21.Ka1 Nb3 mate, however 18.Rxd4! (taking advantage of the pin on the e5 pawn by White's Queen on h5) refutes the idea.

I was quite surprised by the piece sacrifice of 18.Kb1 after 17... d5 as I thought the Bishop would simply retreat.

I felt that after 18... dxe4 that White's position would be difficult to defend.

Interesting in this game is that Black didn't castle, however the King seemed failry secure on e8 throughout the game.

I'll start a new thread for our reverse colours game so that others (eg graggray) may feel free to comment without interrupting the flow of the new game. :)
