Did you know that there are 3 Aussies playing in this event? Two of drew and one lost in the first round last night.

And speaking of juniors, good news is that Ergas will fund the training squad for at least one more year til 2007. Go to blog for pics of Ergas session this year.

Thanks,

AR

For those who haven't bothered looking at the website.
In round 2 Nick Chernith played a GM and lost, while Tomek Rej lost to one of Amiel's friends.
In round 3 Chernith lost to a higher rated player, while Rej beat a lower rated player.
Shannon Oliver lost in the second round before drawing in round 3.

The going is tough in Armenia for our juniors. In round 4, Shannon lost in the Girls and Tomek drew and nick lost in the open. Currently Shannon is on 1 and in the other event, Tomek is on 1.5 and Nick on 0.5. Even the Girls event is bristling with (W)GMs etc rated 2200 + (very much + in some cases) while Tomek copped a Turkish IM on board 30 in rd 4.

To get a feel of just how strong a World Junior (U20) Championship can be just look at all the world class GMs that came to play in Adelaide in 1988.

Lautier, Ivanchuk, Gelfand, Adams, Polgar, Serper, Norwood, etc etc

And we were considered a long away from Europe!

Final results are in. Tomek 5.5/13, Nick 4.5/13, Shannon 6/13. Shannon and Tomek performed a bit above their ratings, Nick a bit below.

I pretty impressive performance for Armenian Andriasian (rated only 2463) to win outright ahead of many very strong GMs.

Yeah I got pissed with a few of them too.

Pity some genious didn't rub off.

I can still remember Chucky walking around singing the 'you're in the army now' song.

Yes; but how about the girls result - a quadruple tie for first on 9/13 including 2 Chinese, one of whom is a WFM rated 2481 :hmm: . The other 3 were WGMs, a Chinese rated 2468 (lower than the WFM!) a Georgian and a Mongolian both WGMs in the high 2300s.

That WFM Yifan Hou has bigger fish to fry than the WGM title. The girl is only 12 years old! She could be the next Judit Polgar - or better..
