The disclaimer is not to distance myself from the organisation of an event - it's to protect players from wasting time asking me questions I don't know the answer to, and me from wasting time answering them. My past experience has been that almost every time I do selections I get a bunch of logistic questions about getting to the event (etc), usually from players who have been selected, that I don't know the answer to and that are way outside my area of responsibility.

I'll reword it in future to avoid misinterpretations. :P

Here's the full announcement:

COMMONWEALTH CHESS CHAMPIONSHIP November 19 to 29 2006.

Applications are now open for players interested in representing Australia
in the Commonwealth Chess Championships at Hotel Mirador, Mumbai, India,
November 19-29. A PDF flier is available - please email me if desiring a
copy.

Australia is entitled to one male and one female representative who will
each receive free board and lodging. GMs and WGMs are automatically
entitled to free board and lodging by title and need not apply for
selection. IMs and WIMs are automatically entitled to free board (but not
lodging) by title, and are encouraged to apply if they wish to be eligible
for lodging as well.

Those wishing to be considered for selection as official playing
representatives must apply, in writing or by email, as per the ACF Selection
Procedures By-Laws, by 25 September 2006. Please refer to item 5 of the ACF
Selection By-Laws before applying and for details of material required in an
application. Items 5.6, 5.7 and 5A do not apply in this case. The full
Selection By-Laws are available at
http://www.auschess.org.au/constitution/Selection_Procedures_By-law.txt.
The alternative selections
procedure (average of ACF and FIDE ratings - item 12 of the Selection
By-Laws) will be used in view of the closeness of the closing date for event
entries prior to late fee (10 October).

Please send all applications by email to Kevin Bonham

Normally I don't give out information about who has/hasn't applied but in this case I can safely say that as the call only went out yesterday I've had no applications yet.

I'd upload the PDF but it exceeds the file size limit for this forum.
