Hi Michael,

The version available for free download is the Rybka 1.0 beta version for both 32-bit and 64-bit processors.

The free demo engine gives you an insight into Rybka's style of play.
Rybka is indeed a revolutionary engine capable of excecuting positional ideas!

You should check out the latest computer rating lists which includes Rybka 2.1 (links available from the rybka web page). The results are pretty incredible.

E.g:
http://www.husvankempen.de/nunn/Replay/table.htm

(serious games at 40/120, 20/60 on dual processor AMD 64 4200+ machines)

It blows away Deep Junior 10 37.5-12.5, and Deep Shredder 10 38-12. Other results are similarly impressive.

I see that Rybka now comes in two versions. Rybka 2.1 UCI will interface with ChessBase etc. Rybka 2.1 + openings 2006 is a completely stand alone version that uses its own interface based on Chess Assistant. Apparently the two programs are the same.

This comes from the ad on the London Chess centre website

The same highly acclaimed program as Rybka 2.1 UCI, this version comes complete with its own custom written Opening Book to maximise its playing strength, amd utilises its own interface, based on Chess Assistant. Additionally, the program includes a convenient interface for playing at Internet Chess Club (ICC).

Important Note : This is a completely standalone version of Rybka and can not be used in conjunction with Chessbase or any Chessbase engine such as Fritz. Users wishing to interface their Rybka in the Fritz environment should purchase the Rybka 2.1 UCI at 29.99

The price of the program plus openings CD is 39.99 from LCC. It may be cheaper elsewhere eg NIC Shop or Convekta.
