This is a test thread so I can learn to bring you Grandmaster theatre using the new PGN viewer.[b]

1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bc4 Bc5 4.b4

This is known as the Evans Gambit.

Bxb4 5.c3 Ba5

This is the most common line.

Okay, well that obviously didn't work very well.

Before I forget I would just like to thank Karthick for going to the trouble of reinstalling the PGN viewer. I think the occasional whinges over its absence were pretty unfair, especially given that Karthick runs this site on a voluntary basis without getting paid to do so-it's not like he owes us any favours.

Yes,

Thank you for that Garth.

Can you please show me how the PGN viewer works? Step by step would be nice, and remember, I need to annotate to keep everyone informed of the proper reasoning behind all my moves, so the steps need to show how you annotate.

AO, I fixed your top one, but I'm not sure what I did right, so try all of the following:

* Small letters - pgn not PGN
* Don't return after end of move list. Just append close-pgn tag immediately.
* Avoid all unnecessary spaces, both before the first move and between the move numbers and moves. Suppose the f in the following is a g:

1.e4 e5 2.d4 d6 3.Nd2 Nf6 0-1

* Don't use *s in between the tags.

I suspect the second and third are the real issues here.

Oh, and always use preview post when posting a PGN to ensure that it is working.

Black's rate of chopping wood nearly matched that of a lumberjack. :)
