Well seeing as no one has started a thread on this tournament...I will.

The web address for the tournament is www.mtelmasters06.com/en/

There is an interesting feature to this site, the play like Topalov.
Basically you have to guess what moves Topalov will play, you get one point for each correct move. There is a table to keep track of people scores.;)

I was watching the 1st round games live last night and i could really appreacate the 30 move - no draw offer rule. All the games appeared to be quite interesting.

I was particularly amazed by the Bacrot-Anand game where it has taken Vishi 15 moves to get a better position as black in Queen's Indian Defence.:owned:

I hope Krampsky gets a Hat-trick over Anand.

I saw Anand-Kamsky game today. If someone told black can win this endgame, I wouldn't beleive it. But if someone said it could be won against Anand, I wouldn't even laugh and referred him to a psychiarist.

According to www.chesspro.ru (sorry the Website is in Russian) Kamsky is some kind of magician...he managed to win 2 drawn endgames..and Svidler blundered away the game straight out of the opening:hmm:

Topalov loses again....and Kamsky takes the lead!:D

Maybe the thought of all that money in the proposed Radjabov match has distracted Topalov...:hmm:

Topalov's Game was rather strange...At one stage I had a feeling he was doing well..but again ..the problem could be with my poor understanding of the position they had on the board

Never under-estimate your own opinion Mike. Before I criticised one of Ian's games (when lost to Gary Lane in Aussie champs) and the whole board jumped on me saying "what would a low player like you know".

Well it came out later that Ian admitted playing a shocker doing 4 weak moves. My earlier comment was that he played like a 1600-1800 rated player.

Is it just me, or is this (http://www.mtelmasters06.com/en/news&article_id=70.html) just a little bit... weird?

In particular:

This is the price to pay by anybody willing to sleep in the bed of the chess World Champion after the end of the competition.

However, I do want this chess table...

And this chess set/sculpture looks pretty swish too:

Oh to have oodles of dough and some artisans on commission

I am being realistic thats all! How can I criticize Topalov's play if I do not even understand it:hmm: I should learn to understand at least some of his moves first....

Another strange endgame by Anand is round 7. It is a second time in this tourney that he loses a drawn endgame:hmm:

With due respect, Michael, but I have to disagree. The endgame seemed very difficult to me. The best he could hope was to a-pawn for d-pawn (before playing Nd4), but the resulting endgame (1 pawn plus knight plus a bishop agains rook and three pawns) seems very difficult (albeit not as bad as what happened in the game)

Igor, I am having another look and I think you are probably right.

45.Nd4? Плохо ли, хорошо ли, нужно было брать на d5. Думаю, окончание было бы все же ближе к ничьей, но удержать его очень непросто. (K.Sakaev)

It wasn't the cost that was freakin' me out, it was the idea that someone would specifically want to sleep in the same bed as Topalov had... or anyone else for that matter. A little creepy if you ask me.. :uhoh:

Topalov's pulled off another late charge - he was 2.5/6 and is now 5.5/9 and equal leader going into tonight's round. Also he has white in his game while Kamsky has Black in his.

Topalov has just won Mtel Masters after beating Bacrot whilst Svidler V Kamsky was drawn. Pono V Anand still in progress but Anand should win.

Good to see Kamsky having a successful comeback. Topalov could still be a bit Iffy in a match.

Anand had better get to Turin pretty damn quickly - the Indians lost 3-1 to Morocco!
