Below is an interesting game from the Adelaide Pennant this year. Names removed to protect the innocent (both players rated in the 1800s or thereabouts). I wasn't playing, but I was interested enough to ask one of the players to email me the game score (something I don't think I've EVER done before). Try analysing (without a computer) the possibilities for white's 38th or black's 40th - each side has 2 rooks and an unstoppable pawn: wild variations and rooks en prise abound. Or the possibilities for improvements earlier in the ending. Enjoy!

Remarkable ending!

I have indeed done as suggested (and then checked by computer and picked up a few nice little wrinkles that I missed although they didn't alter the expected outcomes). Won't post any comments though to avoid spoilers for those who have not yet had a go. Thanks for posting that. What was the time control?

Sorry I've just noticed your post. Too much time in the non-chess section :)

Time control was 60 mins + an increment of 30 sec/move from move 1. When I first saw the game, white was pondering his 38th move. From memory black had a little under 5 minutes at that stage, white between 5 and 10 minutes.
