Whatever this fit of pique you call a "gradge match" is all about, it will only serve to drive you to deeper despair. Either this dumb disrepectful bastard will beat you, or you will know that you can only impove your selfesteam by beating a dumb disrespective bastard. Either way you lose, loser.

BTW, I am on a role ATM - 3/6 at the Fishers Ghost with one game to go - so don't think that I am consistantly a 1200 player.

lok @ all!

Your move Fletch!

(also kudos for not taking the mispelling personally!)

I've always thought that chessplayers benefit by being able to settle their disagreements over the board... it doesn't always mean that the winner of the game is "correct" in their opinion... however it does give a certain satisfaction to fulfilling antagonism in a non violent manner. :D

I would personally like to express my profound wish of good luck to both players, and I can only hope that others do the same and will leave them both be to play out their own game!

I think kibitzing should be allowed and would make things very interesting.

i do not know much about this openning it looks like i'm a pawn and i've only
made 2 moves but since your dum it will not matter.

i better think about this next move but. :hmm:

F did not play one of the EXICTING gambits. No matter, both queens will be out pretty soon and attacks will come thick and fast.

It's actually not a Scandinavian anymore, it's a Panov-Botvinnik attack in the Caro-Kann, more commonly reached by the move order 1.e4 c6 2.d4 d5 3.exd5 cxd5 4.c4 Nf6.

1. Type the following code, omitting the "x"

2. Paste the moves inside the code like this

1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. c4 c6 4. d4 cxd5 5. Bg5 e6 6. Bxf6 gxf6 7. Nc3 Bb4

Note: I have put the "x" in so that the BB application does not read the example code and muck-up this post.

If I leave out the "x", the following is what happens:

1. e4 d5 2. exd5 Nf6 3. c4 c6 4. d4 cxd5 5. Bg5 e6 6. Bxf6 gxf6 7. Nc3 Bb4

Thanks Matt! I didn't know how to do that! (Maybe I just didn't look at enough "sticky" threads ;) ).

Fletch: the "Gunderam Attack" against the Caro Kann (Matt can't play the book line of it now so it's safe for me to reveal it) involves an early pawn push by White, pushing the pawn on c4 to c5 to bypass Black's d5 pawn.

The idea is to attempt to take immediate advantage of White's Queen's side pawn majority before Black can develop. The idea was named after the German International Master Gerhard Gunderam, who employed it with some success in the 1980s (Raymondo Keene & Dave Levy name it after him and recommend it as a little known system for White to counter the Caro Kann in their famous Batsford book: "An Opening Repertoire for the Attacking Player").

Gunderam is also known for the gambit in the King's Indian Defence, Four Pawns Attack, to wit: 1.d4 Nf6 2.c4 g6 3.Nc3 d6 4.e4 Bg7 5.f4 0-0 6.Nf3 c5 7.d5 e6 8.Be2 exd5 9.e5!? :)

Kevin Bonham
07-12-2005, 05:30 PM
I think I can safely comment on move 5 without giving any hints now. The normal fifth move in the PBA is Nc3, with Bg5 the move after. Matt's 5.Bg5 appears to be a slight move order error that might have been taken advantage of with an immediate ...Qb6 with tempo. However that didn't happen and the position is now totally different.

Um Matt, I don't think 13.Nf6 is allowable in this instance (with your only knight being on g1)... did you mean 13.Nf3 instead? (the question mark representing that a question is being asked, and not an evaluation of the particular move).

I wonder if the "type-move" rule applies to these kinds of Internet Correspondence matches... ie if one types that they wish to move a piece, and can legally do so, then they are required to move that particular piece. :)

Bottles and nails are thrown from the crowd. Huge muscle men leap into the arena to protect Fletch and Sweeney from the crowd's fury as the two combatants flee the dome.

lol, Hi Fletch, my initials are not "MP" ;) But they are two vowels... feel free to guess again! :D

PS (I don't know of anyone with the intials "MP" from Bendigo).

PPS I am sure Matt was only speaking figuratively when he said he would "bash you up".... ie meaning over the board, and not physically. (In another thread he speaks of how he once stopped two players from physically fighting at a chess tournament). :)

Hope to see you both in Ballarat! :D
