It was Christmas Eve at the North Pole and Santa Claus was worried. The Wicked Witch of the West had cast a spell over the reindeer and they could no longer fly.

There was only one solution: a chess match between Santa and the Wicked Witch with Christmas as the prize.

See the Rooty Hill Christmas story: http://www.rootyhillchess.org/xmas05.html

:)

I put a link to this yarn on the Rooty Hill Club Championship thread then thought it might be worth a separate thread where we could share other chess Christmas stories.

To start things rolling, here's a link to Rooty Hill's 2004 story as well: http://www.rootyhillchess.org/xmas2004.html

Maybe I should add a line that says, "Only seven more chess club nights till Christmas..."

Does the link in my signature count as a chess Christmas story?

At risk of getting spanked by Fourfy for posting this too early, Rooty Hill's Christmas story went on line this morning.

It's Die Götterdämmerung (or How the Knight Learned to Jump) and is at http://www.rootyhillchess.org/xmas06.html

Be gentle with me, Fourfy, it's only five weeks away...

Five weeks away is acceptable...gives you time to build Dickensian narrative.;)

Hi Dozy,
I clicked on the link on the "No Witches" icon at the bottom of your page and found also a very interesting link to christmas humours, :lol: jingles, Lore and treasures. The URL is www.geocities.com/aavalon888/christmas.htm. The x(mas) files is hilarious...LOL :clap: Is this written by your club member?

I write the stories but that Christmas Lore website was collected from various places on the web by one of our PPs. I did identify him in the story but he prefers to be an APP rather than a PPPP.

It's been there for a few years now and may even pre-date the Rooty Hill web site. It's a very popular destination and he's had a lot of hits on it.

And, since you've got absolutely no chance of working out those acronyms:
PP = Prominent Pinoy
APP = Anonymous Prominent Pinoy, &
PPPP = Publicity-Prone Prominent Pinoy

We have so many Pinoys in the club that, in the new year, I'll probably do some features about chess in the Philippines.

I was a bit lax last year and failed to write a Christmas chess story but there's a new one up this year on my chess.com blog (http://blog.chess.com/Dozy/santas-mate).
And, although I don't get to visit here much any more, a merry Christmas to all you chess chatters.
Cheers.
