Hi Everyone,

I am just wondering if there is anywhere on the web you can watch the championships live. I know on the FIDE site you can but you seem to have to pay $40 US. Does anyone knwo any free sites covering the event?

Thanks

I've only found a couple of partial solutions (which hasn't usually bothered me because most games complete before I get up here in Australia):

The Week in Chess ( http://www.chess.co.uk/twic/twic.html ) has regular updates of .pgn files, but there seems to be a bit of lag.

The Russian site http://www.chesspro.ru/events/sanluis05-en.shtml appears to have live coverage on its "Online Annotations" links, but I've only been able to get one game each day.

http://www.freechess.org/Events/Relay/2005/WCC2005.html claim they will relay the moves live... but their score table isn't even up to date!

But they *do* relay live. Go to http://www.freechess.org/, click on "Play live chess", and log in as a guest. Then you should be able to "observe GMAnand" etc to watch the games. "history GMJPolgar" will give you their recent results for completed games, and "examine GMAdams 45" enables you to examine completed games by number (the number corresponds to the number in the history).

I believe they are also being broadcast on the Chessbase playchess server which you can access with Fritz, Junior, Shredder or Chessbase 9
