Hi chessnut. I don't want to be picky although I am being picky... ;-)
Is there someone other than Bobby 'Fischer' you’re naming this after?

If there's some late great 'Fisher' and his ghost I don’t know about... I'd be interested to know.

I only count 22. Was there a result missing or a deferred game?
Also is Parfait, Richard? If so his rating appears to be 2077 so shouldn't he have been on board 1 ahead of Ilic (2046) and Peters (1934) or do I have the wrong ratings? Just wondering.

Also, will you be releasing pairings on the web somewhere before next Monday night?

I only count 22. Was there a result missing or a deferred game? There were 11 boards on monday night. Johnny Bolens and Daniel Gray requested the half point bye. Therefore 24 entrants

Also is Parfait, Richard? If so his rating appears to be 2077 so shouldn't he have been on board 1 ahead of Ilic (2046) and Peters (1934) or do I have the wrong ratings? Just wondering.Yes it is! I only had the active rating list on me and he wasn't on it. I took his word that he was about 1900 and paired him accordingly. The ratings for future rounds will be fixed up. There are a couple i have to check

Nice result Matt

Mmmm. Matt has a good record against me given the rating differential. He played well last night. I missed a couple of chances but only a couple and I missed them. I think I was too cautious in a tactical position, hoping clearer chances to come later. However in the end the position was too easily drawn. Bxf3 was probably my last mistake in this regard after that the draw seems difficult to avoid.

Oooohhhhh nasty! :D

Actually he should have won. But into the endgame he was having trouble making progress in RB5P vs RB3P position. He swapped of a rook and pawn for my bishop (???) and I should have drawn the B4P v R3P despite his well advanced connect passed pawns. However, I missed a critical king move blockading the backmost of the passed pawns and lost.

The inter-Wollongong pairing rate is quite high and the 45 minute travel time is best avoided when possible.

Scott and I will be travelling up tonight to play our opponents on site.

i know the 45 minute travel time is a fair way to go, but i am assuming you knew where the tournament was before signing up ;)

Might be an idea next year for the organisers/dop to try and avoid pairing gong players together. This has two aims/reasons:

1) Has everyone playing at the venue on the night
2) The gong players get to play different players

Of course the organisers/dop might value 'the integrity of the draw' higher than the above points :uhoh:

Yes I did know. But didn't know so many of my fellow citizens were going to play. (1) is of limited value to me personally but I do see some value in (2). I suspect the organiser's view is exactly the opposite though. :)

Firstly this is the first tournament where i am DOP. So I'm still toying with Swiss perfect. I am trying to keep with the draw as much as possible.

Secondly it is only the people from the gong who are taking the opportunity to play games between each other away from the venue.

Thirdly

WHO CARES?

Only sweeney, before the first round, requested that none of the people from the gong play each other in the first round. No one else requested that they not play others from the gong.

In fact i'm sure that, considering the price of petrol now many people would like to play rounds closer to home if playing in a tourney like this.

If in future players do not wish to play players from the same area as in this case I would be more than happy to accomocate.

I reckon this is bad anyway, Trent. Just stick to the draw. It is not like we are all related to one another down here so you don't have to worry about collusion in the last round or anything.

Trent, the draw is fine.

Gray, the 90 minute round trip is best avoided.

The only particular players who ought not be paired are two players have travelled a long way together to play others and not each other whom they play very often at home.is when. But, the field must be large enough that bent pairing rules would not cause a terrabley skewed round.

I agree with this as well. As Matt and I had just travelled all the way to Campbelltown for the first round it would have been preferable to not be paired together. This is a 1st round issue as later rounds the pairing are generally known ahead of time.

I am cool with any draw you come up with. I will play anyone, anywhere, any time, mostly.

I think that in general you should try to keep to the SP generate ddraw. However, if there is a problem that flexability can solve, then I am Mr Flexible.
