Fine for me. I have noted that in some of the large threads with lots of games (e.g. the "Death in 10 moves" games thread) that it takes a long time to render a screen when there's many games ... on my old PC I used to have time to walk away and make a cup of coffee if there were more than 10-12 games in a page.

That's why the thingy is there to stop auto loading, so you can load each game one by one which is a lot quicker.

Is the PGN viewer currently broken?

Kevin Bonham
05-01-2006, 12:12 PM
It is currently not working as a result of vbulletin upgrades - nonstandard features have yet to be reinstalled by STML.

Another upgrade in a couple of hours - 20 seconds downtime expected, assuming the new router works well.

Wouldn't include something like..... ahem sorry :D

Hi STML,

Any chance of the game viewer coming back? I so loved it. I don't know the details (perhaps it requires recoding under this vB iteration), but the sooner it gets reimplemented, the more it will be appreciated by people like myself.

Thanks in anticipation,
Greg

and still we wait. Imagine how good it would be to view the games from the recent tournaments with a pgn viewer.

The pgn viewer works fine on my comp. Is it just with PCs that its screwed? I've been using the pgn interface for 2 months now. Nice one BB.

Hmmm, not sure what comptuter you are using Howard, is it a Commodore 64? They were usually pretty reliable... sadly the PGN viewer is no longer available for the majority of posters here. :(

However the "Howard is Pulling our Legs!" viewer seems to be working fine on my PC for this BB in relation to your posts. ;)

Or do you just mean being able to type "[ PGN ]...[ /PGN ]" (without the spaces between the "[ ]" brackets and the letters, around your pgn text? ;)

Chess publisher by the Malasian Andrew Oi is actually a Chessgenie program made by Australian Robert Ambalong. You'll find the real version of this unique PGN game viewer in chess blog at http://chessgenie.blogspot.com the weblog of Rootyhill RSL Chess club.

I found this link:

http://ignoramuslex.blogspot.com/2007/04/pgn-viewer.html

and liked the way it has a neat text box for the annotations.

Is there any way the PGN viewer here can be recoded to include the same?

I enjoy looking at games but I would prefer that annotations are hidden until their viewing is needed.

It would give us a chance to guess what a player might be thinking before a move is played.
