It's just Rob's little joke. Lighten up man!

Perhaps he is commenting on the ambiguity of the original thread? MCC can mean all sorts of things...

Yes, it is rather clever.
1) MCC = Melbourne Chess Club
2) MCC = Midland Club Championship
3) MCC = Metro Club Championship

The top match of round 3 was won by Tim Hare (2106!!) over Haydn Barber (2137!!). Tristan Boyd (2176!!) won a long tough match with black against Gordon Dunlop (1838!!). Tristan will be white against Tim in round 4.
A point behind them are Jay Lakner (2059!!), Haydn, John Fedec (fast improving), and Michael Kueh.
Rob Maris (1937!!) played appalling with white to lose to a player that will be about 400 points below him (March ratings). :wall: :(

No it wasn't Fred.

Rob, you are lucky that Wallace Sheridan didn't qualify for the 'A' grade in the other MCC ;) (where Rob is looking good on 3/3).

Tim Hare has now beaten Haydn 3 times in a row - something probably no one else in WA has done for 30 years!

Still, I have a fared a bit better against Tim - may be something to do with the fact that I've had white in all 4 of our games. This trend will continue next week.

In the previous Metro tourney Wallace came 12th out of 12 in the 'B' grade making my loss to him at Midland all the worse. Oh well, nothing I can do about it now (except learn from the mistakes made), anyhow I've helped make a nice guy happy, albeit unintentionally.

Tristan Boyd (2176!!) defeated Tim Hare (2106!!) to go a point clear after 4 rounds.

There few a few shock results: Haydn Barber (2137!!) was held to a draw by Michael Kueh (1766!) - Michael couragiously opened 1.f4 (Haydn usually employs 1.f4 as white and 1.d4 f5 as black), Rob Maris (1937!!) was (once again) held to a draw by Steven Hintz (1376!), Wallace Sheridan (1607!! but likely to be U1550!! in March) defeated Gordon Dunlop (1838!!).

Tristan will be confident with black against Wallace next, but should face either Haydn or Jay Lakner (2059!!) in the last round.

Any further scores? Last round pairings? News of Adam Haasse?

Any further scores? Last round pairings?
As Jay (2108!!) defeated Tim Hare (2104!!) in round 5 he got paired against Tristan in the final round. This match has been played already, due to Tristan's busy Uni schedule, with Tristan triumphant in less than 25 moves.

The top pairings are as follows:

1 Boyd, Tristan 2197 [5] 1 : 0 Lakner, Jay 2108 [4]
2 Kueh, Michael 1769 [3.5] : Sheridan, Wallace 1517 [3]
3 Maris, Rob 1937 [2.5] : Barber, Haydn 2137 [3.5]
4 Hare, Tim 2104 [3] : Dunlop, Gordon 1855 [2.5]

Following this last round the club hosts the State Allegro Championships over the next two weeks.

News of Adam Haasse?
Adam Haasse (2068!) is working down South (wine tasting I believe). After a great 2003 and a relatively poor 2004 (by his standards), Adam I understand is continuing his break (since July I think) from chess. However, he is considering playing in the (South West Open: Bunbury) next weekend as he will be in the area and can get free accomodation from a relative. This is usually the best weekender in WA and quite strong: Julian Painter 2188_,Stewart Byrne 2158! should be the top ranked participants :)

Meanwhile Wallace is on fire, with 3/5 against a strong field. Go Wallace! (say hi to him for me).

Gee that's a tough last round draw for you Rob (especially when you're on 50%)!

Yer after dropping 90 ratings points in the last ratings period Wallace is going well :) Analysing the games with his opponents plus on Fritz may be helping him.
