What does "Praxis Rules apply." mean? This predates Nimzowitsch.

I assume it means the rules given in Staunton's Chess Praxis (https://archive.org/details/bub_gb_nbACAAAAYAAJ/page/n5/mode/2up) (1860).

I had never read those Praxis rules before. There are some amusing rules in there that have fallen by the wayside:

If a player be guilty of a false move by playing a Piece or Pawn of his own to a square to which it cannot be legally moved, or capture an adverse Man by a move which cannot legally be made, he must, at the choice of his adversary, either move his own or take the adverse Man legally, forfeit his turn to move, or play any other Man legally moveable which his adversary may select

Also interesting that there was some doubt about whether a player who was stalemated with the exception of an en passant capture was required to make that capture.
