Berserking is where you cut your time in half. You may have noticed Ari and James played against you with only 90 seconds on their clock, that's because they activated their "berserk mode". The benefit of this is you get bonus points for winning, but obviously, you put yourself at a disadvantage since you don't have much time to play the game. That is why some players were able to score 3 points in some games.

I see... did not even know I could do it. I better try it. For a moment i thought, its bonus points for playing 1.a4 (The Morris Opening) or 1.h4 (The Dale Counterattack)

Ah the Roy System. I myself have found this system very limiting due to the inability to play Ra3->g3/e3/d3

We matched the 19 players from last week! IM Morris, IM Dale, FM Baron and FM Puccini competed against a strong field including guest IM "The Great" Dane who joined to spoil the regular's party. In the end, IM Morris was able to regain the title from Dale, holding off a strong finishing "Blind Man" who finished in second place.

This week's Degenchess Arena was a two horse race from the start. IM Ari Dale and IM James Morris tore away from the rest of the pack early on and never looked back. However, it was the defending champion (James) that held on to retain his title. A bit of controversy for 3rd place with FM Baron edging out FM Puccini for third place by one point... however... this was only possible thanks to Queentrap stalling his clock long enough against Puccini for the tournament clock to expire, costing him the 2 points that would have put him into third!

Queentrap later said he hoped that by allowing the Russian FM to finish higher on the podium, that he would as a result end up in Russian President Vladimir Putin's good books. Nonetheless, Jack wins the top subscriber prize for the week finishing in fourth place, and gets a free copy of "Among Us" on steam.

See you all next week!

Should also be noted, Jack offered me a draw after My mouse slipped to Kf8 instead of 0-0. If not for such a noble move, the tourney result would be different. Also, the winner scored 75% with runner up scoring 69% - it shows the depth of the field. As in the past, I can recall several players scoring above 70%

Today's Degen Blitz Arena was a one man show. James finished on 94 (99 if you count the destruction of Queentrap in the final game, which finished 1 second after the tournament clock expired), smashing the previous tournament record by almost twice the amount! Ari had a great start but after a loss to the Royster, couldn't get it going again. He managed to hold on to second place while a newcomer to the podium, Secret Account snuck into third despite the pleading from Lekko for someone to knock him off!

IM Ari Dale reclaims the throne! The defending champion only stuck around for a few games scoring 1/3 before deciding to call it a night. Ari in turn proceeded to dominate the field, scoring wins in his last 7 games to clinch the title. In second place was that blasted SecretAccount - I may have to offer a bounty on him for anyone who can prevent him from placing on the podium! In third, Michael Baron made his return to the podium, scoring a respectable 28 after giving everyone in the tournament time odds (1:30 - 3:00).

On a personal note, its great to see so many new faces joining in every week. Hopefully we can keep building towards an even bigger tournament!

This week, IM Ari Dale was too good for the field, successfully defending his Degen Blitz Arena title for the first time! Congratulations also to Degen Blitz Arena debutant Jack Rodgers who claimed his first podium finish, just missing out on the top prize and finishing in second. Great to have you around for the stream Jack! And in third place ... *mumbles* well done SecretAccount *mumbles* ... FM Baron and FM Puccini were close to podium finishes in their own right, but slow finishes meant that the secret account overtook them in the final stages of the tournament.

I hope everyone had fun and tunes in next week.

No clones, but a new champion!

Michael Baron wins his first Degen Arena Title in the blitz and dethrones defending Champ-Champ Jack Puccini in the process. Michael only lost one game and scored x2 more than anyone else in the event. It was good to see the big guns stacking the podium, and no secret accounts...

Jack Puccini holds on in the Bullet to retain the gold and costs yours truly second place, allowing Queentrap to sneak up ahead of me. Michael played his first bullet event this week but entered late, which is why he didn't finish higher.

Congrats to all podium finishers and thanks to everyone for playing.
