20 Women v Nigel Short - in Aotea Square
Now this is going to be fun! On Wednesday 13th January (following the New Zealand Open), English Grandmaster Nigel Short will play a 20-board simultaneous exhibition with a difference – his opponents will all be women. The “Beauty v the Beast” simul will take place from 11am-2pm in the heart of the Auckland CBD, thanks to kind assistance from “Summer in the Square.” If you are female and interested in playing, please contact heligan@newzealandchess.co.nz.

Should be interesting. I suppose they are milking the relatively non-controversial Short article about male/female sex differences (http://www.chesschat.org/showthread.php?15904-Nigel-Short-gender-difference-comments-row), since as Short wryly pointed out, "British Grandmaster is a Sexist Pig" sells more newspapers than an accurate headline.

This reminds me of Arthur Calwell's quip: two Wongs dont make a white

Given Short's article - the ladies will be super-motivated :)

Nigel is in fine form over the board lately, recently cracking the top 50 at age 50.

Short won all 20 games (http://www.newzealandchess.co.nz/results.html), including against WIM Sue Mararoa, Sherry Li (2007), and bachelorette "reality TV" star WFM Natasha Fairley.

Short says on FB that this journo interviewed him but didn't use any of it, because she came with an agenda. This bint told him after the interview that he was talking crap, then repeatedly brought up points that Short had already pointed out, as could be confirmed by the recording. No wonder that the interview wasn't used. It's obvious that this feminazi hadn't even bothered to read Short's original article.
