Hi Everyone,

Just a reminder that MCC(66 Leicester st Fitzroy) will be conducting the XMAS SWISS on the last weekend before christmass. So why not come along and play. Rumor has it that jeff will be bringing 10 juniors from Box Hill. A number of MCC juniors will be participating, so this should be great for Victorian junior chess. If anyone would like to offer any suggestions on how "we" could get "you" to play in the tournament, please feel free to contribute to the debate.

Cheers FG7

How about prize list and 'strong players likely to enter' list?

Starting time wouldn't hurt either?

Submitting completed events in a timely manner to the VIC ratings officer wouldnt hurt either.

That from experience I'd guess to be 7, but i guess it wouldn't hurt for firegoat to elucidate on these things

hi everyone,

This is from the MCC website....we changed the name from [Immanuel Open] to Xmas swiss at the last committee meeting. I listened to Jeffs and Starters comments on this bulletin board and thought this would be a positive.

December Immanuel Open: 18th and 19th December
Day 1: Round 1; 11 am, Round 2; 3 pm, Round 3; 7 pm
Day 2: Round 4; 11 am, Round 5; 3 pm
Time control: 60 minutes + 30 seconds\move
Entry fee: $50 Working, $40 Concession, MCC Members $5 less

This is all I know provisionally until Saturday. Will let everyone know further details after Saturday, that is , when I speak to MCC tournament organisers.

Cheers FG7

Doesnt worry me goat. However your members possibly expect their games in your events to be rated in a timely manner.

Your comments are out of context. Why you choose to make them is really your own personal issue. As I have said before on previous threads if we have computer difficulties then unfortunately sometimes things like ratings may be late.

Furthermore, you denigrate others who went to alot of effort to fix those problems.

i probably wouldn't go down to melbourne for this anyway..... but only 5 rounds is a bit of a turn off for me. If this was held in Sydney i probably wouldn't go.

BTW are you expecting no more than 32 players? Chances are if there is more you won't get a clear winner.

I mentioned it here because no one from the MCC responded in the ratings forum when I raised it.
Also in which previous post did you mention a computer problem.
The event in question finished in early November. Its now the 1st Dec.

I denigrated no one. I asked why they hadnt been submitted. You chose to denigrate me with your response rather than give a sensible reply.

There is only one goat around here and its you.

As the ACF Ratings Officer, I think that you could show more decorum in public.

Neither you or that other clown Sweeney contributed anything to this thread.

If firegoat was at all reasonable he could have simply replied that their computer was stuffed and they could not therefore create the SP files.

Thanks Bill now I understand.

Let me start by apologising to you. I did denigrate you. I thought you were being an obstinate old man. I thought you were talking about the rating problems MCC experienced earlier this year, problems which were rectified. I did attack you over your rating comments because I misunderstood where they were coming from. Please accept my apology.

Next, MCC at a committee meeting over 3 monthes ago voted to ensure that ACF rating cut offs would be adhered to by MCC. I'm sure MCC officials are aware of this responsibility.

Furthermore, I have been on holiday away from MCC for a month, but have been receiving email from the Victorian Ratings officer. To the best of my knowledge all Melbourne chess tournaments were sent to Chess Victoria. I certainly received no notification of any problems with the ratings, form either the ACF,ChessVictoria or MCC, except the usual (tournaments must be submitted).

Moreover, Without being privy to any detail until Saturday I can state one thing quite clearly. Malcom Pyke did send the Melbourne cup weekender to ChessVictoria before the cut off date. What has happenend since then is at best unclear, at this moment in time.

So, all things considered I think that maybe you might owe MCC an apology Bill Gletsos. There appears to be little evidence of any wrong doing on Melbournes behalf. Furthermore, it is simply ridiculous that you expect MCC to be accountable to a warning that you deride on a public bulletin board. The fact that probably nobody from MCC read your posts ( i certainly did not know until this thread) ought to be warning enough. But does this not say more about your ideas of "official"communication. At best you are being opinionated, at worst negligent. So thanks for the warning but an email or phone call may have been better, if not to me directly, then maybe MCC.

Which brings me to my final point. What purpose does it serve for you to bemoan MCC? Is it because you are constuctive critic who wants to improve communication between the ACF,ChessVictoria and MCC or is it because you just like the sound of your own voice?

Cheers FG7

P.S Has the Australian Masters been rated? Who sent it to you Bill?

I was not intending this as an offical means of communication.
I was informed by the VIC Ratings Officer that the SP files he received from the MCC for the Melbourne cup weekender were essentially useless as they they only contained results up till round 2 and the draw but no results for round 3. As I understood it he had queried this with the MCC but had received no reply. I therefore raised the issue of the event on the BB as I hoped some MCC person may read it. Given the VIC ratings Offcier is very efficient and did not send it to me by the 29th November he obviously had not received them by then.

Which brings me to my final point. What purpose does it serve for you to bemoan MCC? Is it because you are constuctive critic who wants to improve communication between the ACF,ChessVictoria and MCC or is it because you just like the sound of your own voice?
I was trying to benefit the players who participated in the event and who would reasonably expect it to have been rated.
That said my tone may have been a little sarcastic. For that I apologise.

It was rated in the September 2004 ratings period.
The VIC Ratings Officer submitted it on the 23/08/2004.

Hello Everyone,

The Xmas swiss was held at Melbourne chess club and attracted a fine field of 48 players. The event became a three way tie for first place between Bill Jordan, Michael Baron and exciting junior Reubban Muthusamy, with the later playing well above his 1600+ rating. They all shared the prizemony with 4.5/5. Many thanks to Geoff Saw who encouraged a number of juniors to participate.

I am waiting for Bill Jordan to provide a link to the Melbourne page, with all the appropiate pairing details, if anyone wants more information.

Cheers FG7
