Merv Morrison Memorial Chess Tournament

Poison Pawn Grand Prix Class 1 Event

When: 24 - 27 October 2014.
Where: Auckland Chess Centre, 17 Cromwell St, Mount Eden, Auckland.

An Open 6-round Swiss system event with a time control of 90 minutes with an addition of 30 seconds per move starting from move one.

Timetable:

Friday 24 October 2014: 6:15pm Players Meeting. 6:30pm Start of Round 1
Saturday 25 October 2014: Round 2 starts at 9:30am. Round 3 starts at 3pm
Sunday 26 October 2014: Round 4 starts at 9:30am. Round 5 starts at 3pm
Monday 27 October 2014: Round 6 starts at 9:30am. Prize-giving will follow the completion of the last game on Monday afternoon.


Entry Fee: $50; no entries accepted after 6pm on 24th Oct 2014 (or when full)

Prize Fund:
Open: 1st $320, 2nd $200, 3rd $100
Under 1800: 1st $220, 2nd $180, 3rd $80
Plus Grade Prizes to the value of $300

The under1800 winner will hold the Merv Morrison Trophy for 2014

Conditions:

Prizes:

No player may claim more than one prize.
In the event of a tie, prize money will be shared.
Players eligible for open, under1800 or grade prize would receive the highest monetary value prize.


Half Point Bye Round 1:

Any player may elect to take a half point bye in the first round on the Friday night only. This must be notified before entries close on 24th Oct and can be noted on the entry slip.
Zero point bye(s) can be requested in any round
Only first 50 fully paid player entries will be accepted due to space constraints.
The tournament will be a FIDE rated event.
All NZ players must be NZCF registered players
Unregistered NZ players can complete registration at the tournament + pay $20 NZCF player registration fee.

If you have space in your car, do offer rides to players in your area who may be interested in playing in the tournament BUT haven't entered because they have no transport.
There's lots of places open over the weekend and many will not charge public holiday surcharge on Monday. So shop around.

Under 1400: 1st Oliver Picken; 2nd= Nicole Qin & Nadia Braganza
