So I shared the Club championshp with my flatmate and good friend Sean Karita ;) (after we both smashed [Alex], the arrogant one (1752) hehehe:)

Report by Nik Moore:

Nine people participated in the final tournament, so one person per round (Ed,
Brendan, Dan and Robert) each received 1 point for a bye. At long last, there
was an upset! Seeded seventh, I defeated third seed Brendan in round 1 thanks to
my united advanced passed pawns.

Sean and Dion proved unstoppable, beating everyone else they played. Sean beat
Dion head-to-head for yet another tournament victory. Stuart and Dion both
finished on 3 points, Dion winning a five-minute playoff to take second prize.

There was one draw last night, between Dan and Ed in the final round. In another
unlikely twist, Brendan picked up the wooden spoon, as he lost all three games
he played.

So, what does all this mean for the final results for this year?

Player First Second Third Pts
Dion Sampson 1 6 2 24
Sean Karita 4 1 1 24
Brendan G 2 3 1 20
Alex ******* 2 - - 10
Stuart 1 - 4 9
Stephen C 1 - 1 6
Jon Humphrey 1 - - 5
Pablo - 1 1 4
Ben - 1 - 3
Nathan Anderson - - 1 1
Nik Moore - - 1

It’s a tie! Dion and Sean share the $20 cheque – once QUGS gets a new
cheque-book. Sean has had an outstanding year, winning every tournament game
played, except for two losses (to Dion and Brendan) and two draws (with Pablo
and Garvin). Dion has placed in 9 out of the 12 tournaments. Brendan, the
youngest entrant, also has an excellent record. Some of the others on the list
may have ended up close to the frontrunners, if they had played in more
tournaments.

Of the “group 2” players (people who aren’t in this list, plus me), James has
been the most consistent. He has beaten all the other “group 2” players every
time, except for one or two draws. He enjoyed several near-upsets, including a
draw against Stuart earlier in the year. I also came close to an upset a few
times, before finally managing one. This should be an encouragement for other
group 2 players. Next year, there may be a prize for the “best group 2 player”.

P.S. BTW, we have been playing the 'River Rapid' (Me, Alex, Nathan Anderson and Sean) which we may submit for rating if we can front the finances for ;)

Nobody smashed [Alex]. In the tournament referred to Alex had had too much to drink, and was playing accordingly. But when sober he is nearly invincible, just ask the Australian Juniors Champ Dennis. During the UQ Championships Alex attended 4 times winning first place in 2 out of those 4 visits - not too shabby - Go Alex!

Your Sherlock Holmes pipe must have something other than tabacco in it. I am just a friend of Alex, but last time I checked not actually him. Recent rapid ratings came out on the CAQ website. You can check out rapid ratings there. Hope I've been helpful.

He didn't claim to be anyone specific, only Alex's friend, which is fine. Garvin are you sure he is Alex? Have you been reading his private messages? ;)
