Extremely good result for Ross. The other three names are former or current NZ Champions.

It was a good result for Ross, and he must be happy with drawing with Wastney in round 5 and winning against Steadman in round 6.I don't much more news as I got the results news from a participant.Hope Bill Forster updates the Wellington site with full results soon.

Agreed. Well done my dentist mate and ex Otago Uni CC mate Ross Jackson! That coaching from the Green Knight is paying dividends!

Who is the Green Knight?

Who is the Green Knight?
I guess it is Gawain Jones - Ross was getting coaching from him when he resided in Wellington.

Congratulations to Ross and Scott

The full results are available now (Tuesday morning - 11am AEST). A decent result by ex-Otago player Roger Perry as well.

In the story Sir Gawain is not actually the Green Knight and in fact beheads it.

True. My weak Green Knight joke started when in a discussion with FM Michael Baron on a thread he was called the Red Baron and I said it would be good to see a match between the Red Baron and the Green Knight! I liked the chess connection in the latter name and as stated above it is of course GM Gawain Jones.

I've uploaded a tournament .pgn to the (Wellington Chess Club (http://chess.wellington.net.nz)) site. Ross' sensational win against Mike Steadman in the last round is worth the price of admission alone. [Typically the always modest Dr Jackson cannot be drawn to make any comment beyond "I was completely lost"]

Just as well Mike's scoresheet was legible, because few of Dr Jackson's ever are... Maybe he should invest his winnings in a Monroi!

Or else the tournament organizers should invite a pharmacist to play ;)

Thanks for the games, I enjoyed playing thru most of them.I was surprised that the German FM Zwahr lost to Steadman in similar fashion how Gibbons lost to Steadman from 2011 NZ Champs.
