Surprised to see a place the size of Feilding have its own chess club when Palmerston North is not too far away. But why not if the numbers warrant it. How many members are there? I still remember Harbour City / Petone, years ago, being a successful club under the management of Mark, Gavin Marner, Peter Collins and Phil Monrad if I recall correctly. Good luck with the Feilding club.

We have 30 members at the moment and growing every week
most of them are kids
we keep going like this and we might have the biggest club in NZ

Good to see the junior section going well.I suppose the earlier 5.30pm start time works well for that age bracket. One of the things I found over the years of club chess is that the professional older crowd prefer later starts around 7.30pm and as you turned up you would see parents of the juniors arriving to pick up their kids, so there was little time overlap where juniors got to mix it with the seniors.

We (Hobart) brought the start time for our adult club forward to 6:30 so we could have adult/junior overlap between 6:30-7:30. It's worked well although many adults do find 6:30 inconvenient and struggle to get there in time for games starting then.

Yes, a very good club which had strength and also ran good tourneys.
