Since when is a senior 55+ for men and 50+ for women?

You are incorrect Bill! ;)

Australian Pensioners Insurance Agency recognises both men and women over 50 as seniors! http://www.apia.com.au/apia/?cmpid=APA:GI:PI:NPS:SEM:20111024:501&2473PSEM ;) :P

I think you're confused about who is at odds with what you referred to.

It seems looking at past entry forms that the Asian Seniors has used different rules to FIDE for at least the past few years.

FIDE are now apparently going to use two bands of seniority with one at 50+ and one at 65+, and that will be gender-neutral. Previously FIDE used 60+ for men and 50+ for women. Both the old and the new FIDE standards differ from the Asian Seniors standard.

So what rules about Senior status is Australia going to use then?

Probably a moot question until such time as there is next an Australian Senior - the event hasn't been held for a while. (The very successful event last year was an Oceania Senior.)

I am 55 and have entered the Asian Seniors. Should be a good event. It's at Parramatta. At least I can't lose to pesky under-rated juniors in this one!

Any Asians are coming? or will it be just Aus +NZ event? I can think of many strong Asian Players over 55: The first name that comes to mind is Torre

It would be great if Torre played. Pity there are no strong Australian players in that age group.

Cheers,
Jammo
