Sorry, I can't make it ;)

I'm thinking about playing in the SI Ch'p though.

Can I count that as a registration?:)
There is a rough tournament page including registrations to date at http://home.clear.net.nz/pages/otagochess/tournaments.html

Yes if you like - but I don't know if I can get the requisite holidays yet.

Well, I have added you now. We need to attract enough high-rated & titled players to make norms possible, so I hope you can make it.

I see that it has 9 rounds, is this a first for either a NI or SI? As I can only recall 8 round events in the past.Any way I hope it is a success and if I catch the chess bug you might see some exotic entries.

A similar thing happened in Nelson in 2007 and Kaikoura in 2008. I probably should start a new thread for the the SI Chp....

Anyway here are the results of the Otago Autumn Rapid

yeah, two of our most active members, Hamish & Bob Clarkson were out of town. If we'd sorted out our publicity properly, we might have got more Cantabrians on a 'come to play some chess and then see the Crusaders v Highlanders at Forsyth Barr Stadium' promotion...:)

Now for a really off-topic rugby post: the sky must be falling because (1) Otago beat Waikato and Canterbury in consecutive games??? (albeit in Super 15 guises) and (2) the ORFU is broke???

Both true - but if The Highlanders keep winning surely ORFU will recover. Highlanders take on NSW Warratahs next at Dunedin. Go the Highlanders!!

BTW rugby is not really off topic for a tournament in my birth city of Dunedin!!
