Hello everyone,
I will be going to Europe in June and July and I was wondering if anyone knew which chess tournaments were on, around that time, including lower rated sections (U2300,U2000 etc).
Cheers
Mike

The Czech Open is a very large chess festival, and other games as well, with a large number of events and is on in the last part of July. It seems to have <2200 tournaments. More details http://www.czechopen.net/news/index.php

There is also this calender on the FIDE website

Dear Mikesguns
June and July in Europe are summer months with lots of happenings around the place no matter where you are.
I mean festivals, concerts, beaches, girls, girls, and did I say girls?
Don't tell me you have in mind to spend two wonderful months in those beautiful places playing silly chess!

I am considering playing in Croatia from 18th June in the Pula Open. One of the most beautiful and relatively inexpensive areas of Europe and a very strong tournament which had almost 300 players last year.

Great if there was more than one Australian playing!

I'm expecting to play Benasque in Spain 7-16 July. I visited the tnmnt 2 years ago and it looks really good. Around 500 players so although there's only one section you wouldn't be yo-yoing between much weaker/stronger opponents. Plenty of 2600s to watch, very international crowd, the town is delightful and has great hiking (that's why I was there.) Perhaps not the quietest conditions but hey that's Spain!
