Pot Luck Chess came to the Hamilton central library yesterday, in the stack on level 2. This will be happening each Sunday from noon to 3.15pm (these are the library opening hours). This is a free event.

We had only a small number, but there were a couple of new faces, which was good to see. The hope is to establish this as a regular chess playing space, and let the culture develop from there!

I will report on updates or any changes to the format as we go along (it is pot luck as to who is there/who you play). But please come along and check it out if you are in or near Hamilton on a Sunday.

Just to let everyone know, but the Pot Luck Chess is not going to have the support of the Hamilton chess club members this Sunday, as they will be busy with the Momentum chess event (see separate thread). I have revised the HCC calendar (http://hamiltonchess.weebly.com/calendar.html) to reflect when the Pot Luck chess will be supported. Sundays such as this one, or long weekends/public holidays etc.

If you still want to play in the library, then go right ahead - or come along to the other HCC event(s).

We have relocated to the Hamilton Chess Centre, 21 Grantham St, (inside the Hamilton Club), near the Waikato museum. Future events will be held there. See the Hamilton Chess Club (http://hamiltonchess.weebly.com) web site for details and a calendar of events.

Is pot luck chess just about seeing who turns up on the day? Or are pairings done lotto style, rather than by rating?

Yes, the first option. Especially when we were in the library rather than at the chess centre, you could play using your set or someone elses.

Until further notice, we are no longer holding the pot luck chess events each Sunday. As we have a Sunday event or 2 each month already (rapid or rookies shield or both), then the calendar is getting too busy to support other Sunday events. Please see the calendar (http://hamiltonchess.weebly.com/calendar.html)for upcoming events.
