Please have a look to the following vbulletin customization (adding a custom BBcode) proving a dynamic chessboard (javascript based) showing chess games provided in PGN format.

You can see here an example of what you can achieve:
http://www.schachcomputer.info/forum/showthread.php?t=3474

Full guidelines/instructions (as part of the pgn4web project) at
http://code.google.com/p/pgn4web/wiki/User_Notes_vbulletin

If you use this custom BBcode, please let me know your feedback!

We already have a PGN game viewer. I will have a look at the one you mention, however for anyone else wanting to do this, I should warn them that seeing it seems to require signing up on the Scachcomputer site and waiting for signup to be accepted.

I did not realize the shachcomputer site requires registration, sorry.

This other site does not seem to require registration for viewing:

(issue is, I dont have a vbulletin license for testing)

I signed up on the Schachcomputer site and had a look. The one there can do multiple games at once (which ours can't, although you can post multiple boards of ours in the same post). The one there can do starting from a position mid-game (which ours can). It is not clear to me whether the one there can do variations (which ours can).

Ours is several years old but I don't think our site owner is in any great hurry to upgrade it.

It was just a suggestion, up to you if you like it or not.

It's correct, variations are printed in the movelist but cant be clicked and shown on the chessboard. Multiple games can be shown in a single chessboard with a dropdown menu to select.

since version 2.46 pgn4web supports variations display, see for example the second chessboard here (I dont have a vbullettin setup, but the chessboard works in the same way as with phpbb):

You should take a look at www.ChessMicrobase.com (http://www.chessmicrobase.com) - it has lots of good features to display PGNs...
