I'm playing (which is why I posted the thread) :D

The low entry fees are intended to encourage juniors and casual players but the prize money won't be very spectacular and the event won't be rated.

I was hoping Garvinator might play - but with the deafening silence in this thread I have to admit it is looking increasingy less likely ;)

I'm off to NZ today to acclimatise

1st Tony Dowden (TAS) 5.5/6 :D 2nd Quentin Johnston (Otago) 5.0/6

I drew with improving junior player Joel Smith when I got a little short of time in a comfortable ending (excuses: no increment plus I was the oldest player in the field) and beat my main competitors including Quentin, John Sutherland and Hamish Gold. Apart from me there was only one other visitor to Dunedin - Moss Wylie from Antartica (er, Invercargill).

Thanks to Quentin and John for organising a very enjoyable event - in spite of Dunedin's freezing 'summer' weather.

How about: it was enough to win the tourney outright, so no need to take a risk?

no increment plus I was the oldest player in the field
It's always a concern when one of my adversaries in school tournaments is now the oldest player in an open

This is about midway between the South Pole and the Equator, so go easy on them ;)

Well done Tony! :clap:Quentin, I like both the OCC wiki and the ODT columns that you now write. Well done! One day I will come back to Dunedin again and visit the good old OCC. (After all, my parents + 1 brother and 1 sister still live there.)

I don't see why not :hmm: - I'll talk to the committee to confirm (despite my contact details being on the entry form, I'm not the organiser).

I thought rating it was meant to be too expensive (cf last year) - not that I'll be playing this year though.

Levy is $3 per player. Although I'd like to see a change in the levy structure which reduces the levy for junior "J" and senior players "S" while increasing it for "U"-code players.

It's not the $3 that was the issue - half the field were not NZ registered players and at $15 per head, it wasn't worth registering them for one 5 round rapid tournament (and the paying 22x $3 on top). That said we were very grateful for their entries.

Yes, I've realised that in between times :)
