My game annotated

Since my spectacular loss to James Morris was mentioned here and was analysed briefly by Ian Rogers, I have decided to post my full annotation for it for your enjoyment (hopefully ) - BTW, I did see during the game the option mentioned by Ian and considered playing it, but it was very complex (as you will see here) and I underestimated James' attack Good game James!

Morris - Atzmon-Simon

Hi Barak,
I have no doubt that it is good analysis but I find it hard to follow. E.g where in the post is Black's 9th as played in the game?

It is too hard to distinguish the game from the analysis. Maybe Bold text for the game moves would help.
Good luck tomorrow - today now!

The game moves are in black bold, the variations are in blue.
The problem is that there is something wrong with the pgn so you cannot play through it.

I can't get the game viewer to play but with all the nested variations, $6, numbers, etc I'm not going to even try to guess what has tripped it over this time. I do note however that the smiley at the end gets interpreted as a bracket.

Do the following:
  1. Press "Load Game in Interactive Interface"
  2. Download as PGN.
  3. You can then open the PGN directly in Fritz or else open is as a text file, do Ctrl-C to copy it, start a new game in Fritz and do Ctrl-V to paste it.

From Fritz (or equivalent WinBoard interface) you should see everything as was intended.

Sorry for the hassle, but I am just a user (and probably not a sophisticated one) of this forum, not the admin...

Even we admins struggle with some of the intricacies of the custom-designed PGN viewer and getting it to display games in a playable fashion!

Anyway here's a play-through version for anyone who wants to play-through here; I had to edit a few notes to get it to work though and some symbols probably got snipped but it does appear to work.

I appreciate your effort in making this playable/viewable. However, I still strongly recommend downloading the original version I posted as PGN. I invested a lot of time putting symbols such as "!", "?", "?!", "+-" and others. These are very important (and some quite basic, though not all that I've used) chess notations and removing them is impairing the analysis and the interpretation. Is there a way to change the custom PGN viewer (a better plugin someone possibly wrote for forums such as this?) - other than that the only other solution I can thik about is having an external PGN viewer and posting from here links to it.

No matter what I've opened it with (Notepad, Fritz, CB Light) I haven't been able to get the !s, !?s, +-s to show; they don't come through at all. Has anyone else been able to get them to show?

Might have something to do with the way the formatting comes out of the original engine because I remember that I used to have a similar problem with Fritz 6 translating annotation symbols as $6 etc and was able to fix it so that most of them would show up OK. I still have to manually re-enter +/= and +/-.

Anyone else know or remember a way around this?

Yes the $x in the text is exactly what the problem is. e.g. $1 = !

You have to manually change all ' $x' into their equivalent symbols.

Brilliant attack. The annotations provided by the losing player seem to me as they cannot be complete as they mostly look at the position from black's perspective, eg Black is better..?, White is struggling.?, With advantage to black.., etc..
Am I missing something here? Does RYBKA annotate like that ? When, at what stage does white's position have any chance?

Not sure how many people are aware of this and I do not think it has been mentioned on here previously.

Each day not only are the live games shown on the main site, but they are also shown on playchess. So if you want to watch the games through playchess, you can use your engines to follow the games and attempt to have some clue as to what is going on

Don't know about trial accounts, but you can't add an engine kibitzer if you log in as a guest. I prefer to use my own head though, you won't learn much using an engine.
