As far as I understand it, there's nothing to stop selected players accepting some of the benefits of selection but not others.

The following are the provisional results of the selections. These were conducted under the quick selection method of average of ACF and FIDE ratings. Note that the January 2009 FIDE ratings were used as although the April ratings are about to take effect, the January ratings are each player's formal rating at the time of the close of applications.

    OPEN

    Selected:
    1. GM Zong Yuan Zhao 2577/2602 = 2589.5
    2. IM David Smerdon 2463/2520 = 2491.5

    Reserves, in order of priority:
    3. IM Stephen Solomon 2460/2419 = 2439.5
    4. IM George Xie 2397/2407 = 2402
    5. IM Vladimir Feldman 2298/2271 = 2284.5

    WOMEN

    Selected:
    1. IM Irina Berezina 2252/2146 =2199
    2. WIM Arianne Caoili 2182/2128 = 2155

    Reserves, in order of priority:
    3. Giang Nguyen 2105/2067 = 2086
    4. Emma Guo 1778/1820 = 1799
    5. WIM Narelle Szuveges 1833/1684 = 1758.5
    6. Sally Yu 1784/1661 =1722.5

Selected players have been asked to confirm their availability promptly.

On behalf of the ACF my thanks to all applicants for their interest in representing Australia in this event.

To answer that just read the second sentence of Kevin's post.

    Congratulations to those selected!

It's interesting to note that, but for Emma and Narelle in the womens, the results were actually in FIDE rating order and, somewhat unusually, Emma's FIDE rating is appreciably lower than her ACF rating. I guess that this is because her FIDE rating was obtained when the floor had been lowered to 1600 and so was not artificially inflated to begin with as has been the case with many other players in the past.

...I don't want to go among mad people Alice remarked, "Oh, you can't help that," said the Cat: we're all mad here. I am mad. You're mad." "How do you know I'm mad?" said Alice. "You must be," said the Cat ,"or you wouldn't have come here."

Also as Emma is a rapidly improving junior she will constantly be underrated.

Was Emma a Box Hill junior?

Now please pardon my ignorance on this one:
I saw Emma playing recently in Ballarat! I think I have seen her playing at Box Hill Chess Club in the old premises at Box Hill. Am I correct or was she always playing in ACT?

Well Emma has always been from ACT, but she plays many interstate tournaments.
