Why does Australia adopt Amercian bidding?

As a newcomer to these shores I can't believe the influence that America has on basic bidding systems in Australian bridge. Does anybody know the history and why the English Acol system has not been adopted?

Don't know but a possible theory maybe it has something to do with publishing house distribution channels. My understanding is historically it was much cheaper for American publishers to get their books into Australia than British. Hence writers like Goran being more widely available than, say, Reece.

    no...it's just a historical issue.

Stand bidding a la Nth America has been around a lot longer than that developed at the Acol club.

Acol is not taugt at all nor hardly played anywhere in Australia.

Out of idle curiosity, how widely employed is the Precision bidding system in Australia? If someone has a feel for the numbers, a rough percentage breakdown of all systems in use would be fantastic.

Precision went out with lace-up boots.

Strong club players are more likely to play hybrids of Moscito or Symmetric relay.

FMD!! This bridge business sounds very interesting. What about table tennis, youse blokes play table tennis? A few of us chess players actually play it on Sundays. Sometimes them blokes even go kayaking.

Now can you make money out of bridge at all?

Maybe you should stick to your gossip mongering AR and follow your own advice.... as in FMD.

Next time you want to stick your nose in a thread for which you clearly have no interest... don't.

Money is money and ratings prizes are...well, they're a wank. There, I got it off my chest.
