    World Youth Vung Tau Vietnam

World Youth Vietnam - Vung Tau

The first round of the World Youth in Vung Tau Vietam began this afternoon at 3.00 pm local time.

The event seems to have been very well organised with many volunteers to make things easier for overseas guests.

We were met at the airport and greeted with a bouquet of flowers and fast tracked through customs.

Another group of volunteers waited with us until the bus arrived and helped us with our luggage - while giving us maps and bottled water - which was very welcome in the heat.

Results should be up on the website around 9.00 pm local time and pairings for tomorrow at a similar time.

A special thanks to the sponsers - the uniforms look terrific and other teams have commented on how smart they look.

    Hi Kerry.

You must be very busy with the tournament at the moment. Please pass on to players the best wishes from everyone at Box Hill.

If you get the time a short bulletin written on Sunday for the Box Hill newsletter
on Monday would be great. If you can do so please post it here and I will send it to Trevor.

It would be great if an article for Australasian Chess could be written dealing with both the Aussie and Kiwi teams at the conclusion of the tournament.

Sorry, David, my phrase ‘nice wins’ was a bit misleading. I meant nice results against higher rated opponents (not surprising but good to see.) ... I haven't seen the games.
I was wondering the same thing as you. Does anyone know whether the games are available?

    Another book?
No this is silly, the whole premise is silly and very badly written. I'm the senior officer here and I've not had a funny line yet so I'm stopping it.

I have a lot of confidence in Bobby Cheng who is playing for NZ. Hopefully, he will find his form and finish among the top scorers

    Go Anton

I think Anton Smirnov is a chance in the Under 8's.

Same for me. I was really surprised that he already gave away 1,5 points against lower rated/unrated opponents - this is really unusual for him. But the games are not yet available - I am curious to see them
