Thanks, Bill. I'll read it with interest. I was on the VCA Committee in the years when it shared premises with the MCC (I left Melbourne to return to Canberra in 1968). Bob Brooking was also a law tutor to me and others at Ormond College (Melbourne University) in the mid-1950s.Originally Posted by FM_Bill

One of the oldest clubs in the world? A most worthy thread. I hope the contributions to it develop well over time.

Which reminds me of having my copy of "Care For A Game", - bought during my first ever visit at the Club in the '80s, signed by Bob.Originally Posted by FM_Bill

The scanned pics and photos are great. All very interesting...Originally Posted by FM_Bill
Terrific work FM Bill- those scans look great! (and is it my imagination, or are there more pics scanned than printed in the original Brooking booklet?
).
You have given me a rather nice idea regarding preservation of some of the older chess publications I have in my collection by scanning them to pdf files. (At the moment I am wondering as to whether the copyright issue might rear its head).
In any case, very good work by you that is well done and greatly appreciated by myself as a chess fan, and by those who otherwise would never have had a chance to read the booklet... (even if they haven't read it yet!) Thank you!![]()

Bob Brooking has recently started on an update to 'care for a game'.
i.e. the history of the club since he wrote 'Care for a game?'.
