Troubleshooting: Stopping correspondence games (/non-chess) flooding "New Posts"

There are currently 46 correspondence games going on on this site and this may soon increase to 60.

If you regularly read by clicking on "New Posts" and find the surge of CC games annoying, you can clear them by marking the correspondence games forum read.

Do this by opening the correspondence games forum, then choosing Forum Tools: Mark this forum read.

Then click "new posts" and most likely no posts from the CC games forum will appear.

You will need to repeat this process any time a new flood of moves has appeared.

Hope this is useful to those who have a problem with the CC games flooding "new posts" (and that the somewhat impatient and derogatory comments made by some about the issue will now cease!)

A process which may help "automate" this to some extent is to bookmark the "Mark this forum read" link and add it to your Favourites menu. When you want to access ChessChat do so by selecting this bookmark and the Correspondence Games forum will already be marked as read. To use this procedure you will probably need to log in with the "Remember Me" option selected.

    Thanks 'Tic.

    A word of caution though...

Some people access the board using //chesschat.org/ and others use //www.chesschat.org/. As the reader sees these as two different servers, local cookies are not interchanged and so if you log in with one using the "remember me" facility, you will not be logged in when you click on a link with the other.

This is why it is often better for people to pick up their own links from the buttons on the forum as they are built relative to the domain via which the user is accessing the board.
