Selections have been made for the upcoming World Cadets Chess Championship in Brazil. The selections in bold are the top selection and will receive the free accommodation and entry fee at the event.

Applicants have 7 days to lodge an appeal if they disagree with the result. An appeal will cost $100 which the applicant will receive back if their appeal is successful.

Due to the low number of applicants, if any players have suddenly decided they want to play in this event in an age category that did not get any applicants and get the free accommodation, please let me know in the next 7 days.

Thank you to GM Ian Rogers, IM Junta Ikeda and David Koetsier for being the selectors.

For anyone wishing to play in the World Junior (Under 20) Championship, please note that the dates for this event have been moved to November to avoid clashing with the European Club Club. Full details are here: http://www.fide.com/component/conten...hip-dates.html

I will be calling for applications for this event as well as the World Under 16 Olympiad in December in July.

UPDATE: I have finally found a flyer for the ASEAN+ Age Group event being held in Malaysia in November-December. As this event does not have free accommodation or any special benefits for the selected players, the AusJCL will not be holding selections. Players can enter this event directly though the ASEAN Chess Academy. A flyer is available to download via the New Zealand Chess Federation website: http://www.newzealandchess.co.nz/dow...nAgegroups.pdf

After a number of people dropping out due to various different reasons, we now only appear to have one team going for this event. That team is:

    Board 1: Hughston Parle
    Board 2: Issac Zhao
    Board 3: Gordon Yang
    Board 4: Sophie Watkins
    Reserve: Bridgette Watkins

I have said I would play if there was space? Is there a reason the team selection has been executed this way?
